I bought this drill set and I LOVE it. The extra chucks have come in so handy and I use them way more than I ever thought. The battery's charge lasts forever as well, and that is where my question comes in. Do I leave the extra battery in the charger and plugged in all the time?? I seriously get about 2 to 3 weeks off 1 charge, I want to do whatever is best for the life of the battery. There was also the added talk around Christmas time about chargers shorting out and causing fires (not Festool's chargers but a cautionary warning for all brands)What do you all do and suggest??

hi, you certainly dont need to leave a ni-cd, nimh, or a lithium ion battery in a charger permanently.

if you are getting 3-4 weeks use from 1 battery before having to charge again, the other battery will certainly hold its charge without having to leave it plugged into a charger. a waste of time and money and i dont think it would be good for the longevity of the battery cells also.

you can try googling lithium-ion, ni-mh and ni-cd, there is a wealth of information available about battery technology on wikipedia.

Even though the TDK drills have an intelligent charger with a maintenance mode, you do not want to leave the battery on the charger for more than a day or two. Leaving batteries on chargers, regardless of the charger type, is the number one cause for shortening a battery's life. Charge the battery and then set it next to the charge so you know it is charged.
