Hi.
I need some butter knifes and have some teak cut-offs laying around. I know that teak dust is not healthy to inhale. Does this unhealthiness regard the wood as well? Is it a bad idea to use teak for things you use with food?

There are plenty of knives with teak handles and I know there are some utensils made entirely out of teak.  I'd research this topic before I'd try it myself.

That's exactly what I'm doing  [big grin]
This forum is my research area. Hopefully someone will chime in..

'As a handle or utensil any wood is perfectly safe . What you shouldnt use it for is as a cooking utensil as extreme heat has an adverse affect on the wood . Its all down to expansion and contraction with regards to the possibility of germs getting into any tiny cracks when hot  and as it cools the germs are' trapped' . Dont no why teak is any different from any other wooden utensil '. Personally i think its all bulls@@t . Good hygiene should erradicate any risk regardless of the timber used . Years ago when larger boards and pieces of Teak were available AND much cheaper, salad bowl sets made from teak were the rage for a awhile .  Your handles are a non-issue. have fun
