So today I had to go to a job done by someone else that put the handrail on the wall of a pocket door.  They screwed the top bracket into a 3/4" pocket door stud and it finally came loose.  The homeowner did not want the wall opened up and wanted the railing secured.  So I removed the door and glued a piece of plywood to the backside of the drywall and used the cxs and 2 long screws to secure the railing return to the wall.  I was also able to move the railing bracket a little and get that re secured to the pocket door stud.  I had to remove the belt clip from the cxs drill and it fit in the cavity perfectly. Now this wasn't what I wanted to do but the homeowner is always right when they pay so.  I told them to add a full length handrail on the opposite wall and we can leave the other one for looks  [tongue].

Lets see some other cool pics of the CXS at work.  I love this little drill.

Dave,

Couldn't you just drill a pilot hole diagonally from underneath the handrail into the start of the stud and drive a long deck screw or lag in through the handrail into the stud?

There is no stud at the top of the stairs. The return falls in between two 3/4" pocket door studs. There is a bracket 4' down into the box. All air the rest of the way.

The cxs is amazing and there's been a million times i've needed it in a space just like that. Of course I'm not allowed to take pics at work AND IT KILLS ME!!!!! but rest assured it is amazing!!

Ok, I understand.  I guess the person installing the railing originally didn't think it through.

Here ya go.  Had to remove some deco door panels on an island so I could have them refinished.  Unfortunately, there was a cooktop in the way...no problem.  Grab the cxs, and done.  I could have used my c12, but its much heavier, a little bigger would have been more awkward.

The CXS also works well to pound in small trim nails.

Does not leave as big of a mark as my C-12. [big grin]
