I was one of 6 participants in the Festool combination Cabinet Construction and Doors & Drawers class in Henderson, NV from 23 through 27 March this year. Steve Bace, the trainer, had the Domino XL 700. All of us who wanted to do so had the chance to use it. Having been using the Domino 500 since it came to NA, I found that for me the XL was easier to hold steady.
My business is making custom cabinets, so I do not have an immediate need to larger Dominoes. However, my experience has been that the more familiar everyone in my shop becomes with a new tool, the more uses we find for it. Bottom line is that even before a release date certain and price was announced I placed a pre-order for an XL with a Domino assortment. The Domino XL was delivered on 4 June.
By now all of us have spent spare time using it. The advantage to make many cabinets is that we have a whole lot of scrap on hand. I also have a sophisticated shaper and two sweet conventional band saws in addition to my Baker lumber-mill style horizontal band saw. In my own spare time furniture design and building could well be in my own future. I am very happy with my Domino XL 700.
