Hi,

Since I have been on this forum I find a neat Festool  or Festo item every once in a while. And so do others on the FOG.  So I am going to try to get as many together in this one topic as possible just for a  8) place to look at stuff.

Some things are simply discontinued, others are promotional, etc.   If anyone has pictures of Festool or older Festo items and tools please post them here for all to enjoy.

Seth

Do  you know when the two separated? I'm still seeing some pretty cool stuff coming from Festo and I'm wondering if there is still some kind of connection. Is it possible the same family still controls Festo?

I know some of the company history but it's certainly not my area of expertise.  I don't think that there are any products still marketed under the Festo name.  Festo essentially became Festool.  Festool is still owned by one of the two founding families.

Here are a few Festo photos.

And a few more...  Sorry had to do two posts because of attachment limitations.

We actually have several Festo circa-1950s-ish tools in the office that still work after all these years.  A true testament to the quality of the products.  It all began with the two person chainsaw below.  I don't think most people realize that Festo/Festool has been the leading innovator for many of the technologies currently seen in modern day power tools.

Thanks Shane. It's always nice to know some history on a great company.

I just ran into this great gizmo, AquaJelly,  made by Festo and can be found here.

Festo seems to have a complete website and it's a German company. Maybe not related to the old Festo?

The branding on the tools changed from Festo to Festool in 2000 or so.
The accent color change from blue to green happened earlier--in 1996 the tools were labeled Festo and many, but not all, labels were green.

TTS Tooltechnic Systems AG & Co. KG, is the parent company of 3 brands: Festool, PROTOOL and Tanos. With headquarters in Germany, TTS Tooltechnic Systems AG & Co. KG has over 1,800 employees in over 20 countries worldwide.

Festool is made in Germany.  Some supporting products like abrasives are made in the Czech Republic.
PROTOOL is made in the Czech Republic and Germany.
Tanos is made in Germany.  Tanos is the sole manufacturer of Systainers.

Hi,

Thanks for the great start Shane! :)

I am not sure if the company is related but there is a Festo that makes some kind of pneumatic equipment.

Seth

Thanks Ned, now that you post it, it sounds familiar.

I used to always search eBay for Festool and Festo but Festo always seemed to bring up metalworking and hydralic items so I quit searching for it.

Any idea who the new Festo is?

Shane,

In your first set of pics, seventh one down  14a.    What is that tool?   A power plane?

Seth

Now that you mention it, I do believe that some part of ToolTechnic Systems is involved in pneumatics.  Haven't seen the AquaJelly thing before but I don't think that website is affliliated with us.  But, I could be wrong.

Christian would probably be able to share more on the topic since he is the most senior member of Festool USA and was originally with Festool Germany.

Seth, I suspect so.  None of the images were labeled in any way so I would only be guessing.  How do you like that "Plug-It" cord on it? :P

Festo AG makes automation equipment.  The name, the founding date (1925), and the fact that 4 out of the 6 top people share the Stoll family name all suggest that Festo and TTS Tooltechnic are related somehow.

Perhaps we should ask Christian?

Funny that this post should come up now, I was thinking of posting something similar myself, a topic for links/images of old Festool/Festo products that aren't available anymore...

Just found this item on eBay - it's a 'wood flooring set', comprising clamps, mallet, tape, etc. Thought it was vaguely interesting as I'd not seen one before, nor knew it existed.

PS - That Aquajelly looks cool, I ssume it's just something they made to show off the pneumatic control systems? I mean, why on earth would ANYONE want or need a robot jellyfish ???

Personally, I get a kick out of the old pictures. It's rewarding to see how past generations did what we do now (and most of the times better considering the tools they had).

As for Aqua Jelly, imagine him with a PS-300 jigsaw or OF-2200 router attached. Beautiful designs. Cool to watch. Yeah, probably couldn't sell it after he was done.

Thanks johne. I think your picture is what started this topic.

Wow, I like that one of Tim Russert dressed in pseudo-folk-costume, cutting through an enormous beam with an improbable-sized circular saw.  That's an audacious tool!  Thanks, Shane.

Regards,

John

Here is one more tool i think is discontinued. I dont know the english term for it. In dutch it is called a "bandvijl" (belt file)

Hey John,
I understand you are just joking, but FYI that costume is traditional garb for a Zimmerer/Zimmermann (carpenter) to this day in Germany.
