Hi!

Thanks to Festool (Germany) for valuing and appreciating customer feedback from all fields of expertise! Thank you very much for the "care package"!  [eek]  [not worthy] [not worthy] [not worthy] [thumbs up] [drooling]

It's safe to say, the new Festool BHS 60 CE locking, quick-change bit-holder locks any and everything - and parts bit and magnet reliably, every time.

I'm going to call it lovingly, "Centrotec Rapidaptor" from here on now! ;)

Kind regards,

Great followup Oliver!  Thank you for the detailed info.  Now it's just a wait until it gets released to the US.

Awesome! And some short Centrotec bits too!

Seth

I wonder if Axminster in the U.K. has them. Axminster has been excellent in shipping to the USA.

US dealers will have them in October for $30.

Looks very much like a Wera made bitholder. If it is, it is excellent. I run that Wera on my non Festool drills.  [smile]

The BHS 60 CE is awesome!

Now they need to make an extended version, like 6" or so.

My longer centrotec bits aren't being locked in.  They can be pulled out, with only the magnet holding them in.  Anyone else have this issue?

Yup, but I found the magnet to be sufficient

Which isn't surprising because the new BHS60 is an adapter for regular wire and ball detent bits. It isn't supposed to hold Centrotec bits.  [wink]

I think Oliver meant "anything and everything" in terms of non-Centrotec bits.

Which Wera  bit are you using.

The new Festool holder is a Centrotec-ed (meaning the holder fits into a Centrotec chuck) version of the Wera Rapidapter (at least by all appearances).

There is more info in this reference topic on bit holders .

I have now had the new Centrotec holder for a while.

It locks very well and is a step up from the old one. I have three of the Wera rapid adapters and they look very similar in build. I used them side by side today and they handle and feel the same which is very positive.

Longer Centrotec bits go straight into the Centrotec collar so I don't see this as a negative.

The negative is that the bit holder costs almost twice as much as the Wera rapid adapter. But what can a man do, but cave in to the wants and wishes...

This is going to sound inflammatory and I really don't mean it to, but I don't understand the purpose of Centrotec besides from locking you into a proprietary system.

Since the Wera Rapidaptor (and in fact, many quick change bit holders) are readily available, why would I want Centrotec? Peter Parfitt once made a video that suggested it is a better holding system with less chance of wobble but I seem to constantly read about people complaining their Centrotec stuff wobbles like crazy. What am I missing?

Must admit that I'm kind of baffled by the whole centrotec thing.
Twenty years ago? Yeah sure but now it just seems to be the most expensive way to buy bits.

My perception is that Festool wanted to improve on the industry standard so that their drill bits would run true. Since the inception of Centrotec it appears most everyone making the standard bits have taken advantage of better manufacturing techniques, which obscures some of the centrotec superior features. I have three tools that use centrotec and I mix and match various components amongst them and have never had a driver bit or drill bit show any discernible runout. There is a premium involved that is not readily appreciated in many cases but their original goal was laudable for a company wanting to offer a superior system.
