Now bear with me guys because my memory isn’t what it was…the attic lid was always an option from Festool ekat but the parts alone for the changeover were in the $50-$60 range.

Several years ago Toolnut offered a retrofit kit for only about $25 using genuine Festool parts.  That became a very popular conversion kit for Systainers until it was no longer offered around 2 years ago

I swear I saw this posted as one of the buried-lede highlights of someone's European New Items list, but maybe I saw it on FB?

No, you're right I saw it posted too.

I've seen this before here too.

You can't make your own Sys³ with attic lid using T-Loc (non-Sys³) parts

I have one Sys-II T-Loc with attic lid, but I bought it complete that way. That holds my PS-300 with the complete Festool jigsaw blade assortment, etc.

sys-claassic.de sells all their T-Loc sizes with optional attic lids.

About €15 above bare TANOS systainers.
Also offered for the Combi T-Locs for €9. They must be getting them as parts in bulk and install on systainers at sale/ship.

example:https://www.sys-classic.de/systainer-T-LOC-2-Generation/Empty-systainer/Size-1:::3_360_361.htmlhttps://www.sys-classic.de/systaine...tainer/systainer-T-Loc-SYS-Combi-2-anthracite::3744.html

If in Europe, I believe that is the cheapest one can get these for non-standard sizes.

That said, I do not like the whole attic thing. It prevents putting anything above the systainer so one can access it and reduces internal height so one often needs a bigger systainer for the same tool.

Drawers are much more practical for quick-access items like drill bits that actually fit in the lid. Be they in a combi stack or standalone.

I think the attic lids are really a very specific thing so should be sold as general upgrades/accessories instead. They either perfectly fit a workflow, or are just annoying. Almost nothing in between. Not a fan of shipping them with tools.

Yeah, that's what I found out too, later on.

Also... the lid becomes heavier and there is no spring / suspension when the lid closes..

I'm a big fan of the attic cover, I got around the flush fitting cover issue by going up 1 size in Systainers. So if the item came in a Sys 1, I'll bump up to a Sys 2 with an attic cover. The Sys 2 goes to a Sys 3 with attic cover.

Here's a Vecturo and a Carvex with attic covers.

Here's an installer kit with an attic cover. With the typical installer kit there is just no other way to store all of these items for easy access. That's a lot of extra items to include.

I wish they would have offered the attic more often because i love the idea.  But now that i have over 20 systainers im not going to buy a bunch more to swap them out.  If they would sell the lid by itself, that would be awesome.

Guys and gals, I have Attic Tloc Systainers coming out of my ears.  I have had classic attic systainers coming out of my ears.  I am the King Kong of attic lids. I know what they are, I know where to get them.  I only care about the new generation.  I want the skinny on a US release, Tanos versions, whether or not there will be empty inserts (the last ones were freaking great) and etcetera.  Tanos discontinued the bit caddy, and so that makes the old ones undesirable…aside from the fact that the current systainers rule and their ancestors drool.

Way back when, I would buy Tanos SYS IIs from Lee Valley with the attic and exchange the lid with what ever size sys I needed.  Like Cheese, my Fein Supercut lives in two, my Senco compressor lived in a five with attachments in the lid, my Milwaukee M18 Surge and grinder live in a Sys II drawer with an attic lid and there are some more.
