There has been a lot of talk about using the Dust Deputy, have any of you constructed and used a Thien Separator?

John

I have one in my shop.  It was living in a closet with a Rigid vac, and I have emptied the trash can a dozen or more times in the last 6 months.  I just took the vac out the other day and checked the bag, it was basically empty.

It's a great design, but given the time it takes to make a Dust deputy may be a better value.

I have a dust deputy in front of my shop vac and a thien baffle in a 30 gal galvanized garbage can in front of my dust collector.  The thien baffle works as well as the DD at a fraction of the cost.  I'd estimate that I'm getting 2-3 ounces of fine dust in the dust collector bag for every gallon of dust in the thien baffle can.

Build one - you won't regret it.

I've built one for a 30 gal heavy ga. trash can and have parts for 2 more for friends that are contractors. I use it mainly for site cleanup with my CT22. I found it fairly quick and easy to build. I agree with Kevin that a DD is is cheaper, the C06 from Clearvue is no longer available and I'm not a fan of Oneida, so this was a great alternative. It doesn't stick up in the air like the DD just waiting to get hit.

The Thien separator is the next project on my list.

I'll post a WIP report when I get to it, it's going to be more than just a baffle and a lid.

Karel.
