Through-the-wall a.c. Died today.

Another advantage of ordering the spare remote for your AC while it is still in production is that the aftermarket is still large enough to spawn knock-offs.

I ordered one from Amazon for $18.99.  It does not have the remote thermostat feature however.

I will open the package and test it when it arrives.  If it works correctly, I will remove the batteries and store it until needed.

So, again I suggest getting the spare remote early in your AC’s life while supplies are still generous.

I noticed that for my old, discontinued, no longer supported by Fujitsu mini-split AC there are many aftermarket remotes for it available.

What I did is learned the codes from my existing remote into my do-it-all TV remote. It's a bit weird having an "AC" as one of the items, but it works just fine. IR is IR I guess, but newer remotes may not be using IR.

How is it that we all managed for years without remotes, but it now becomes a tragedy when a remote dies.  I think I will get an urn for over the fireplace for the ashes of my dead remotes.

I did work for a company where the owner was a highly religious man who took a half hour at work each day to study the Talmud.

He felt that suffering was biblical and built character and he refused to get a electric garage door opener that his wife desperately wanted for their home.

But I, Packard, came to the rescue.

Automatic garage doors are an important safety device, I pointed out.  Your wife comes home after dark and has to exit the car to open the door.  Who is hiding in the bushes, I asked.

But with the electric door opener, she can remain in the safety of her locked car, and she can keep it locked until the door is closed.

He got the electric door opener, and his wife became one of my many fans. [big grin]

Note:  The above story is entirely true and accurate (including the many fans). [big grin]

Update on remote:

The third party remote arrived from Amazon yesterday.  Under $20.00 including tax.  I tested it and it works perfectly.  I removed the batteries and stored it until needed.

About five years ago my GE AC remote died.  I spent about 2 hours on Google back then looking for a replacement.  None available.

Apparently the aftermarket vendors have stepped in and stepped up.  Several options available from Amazon now.  I ordered one from the version with the best reviews.  I will test it and put it in use immediately if it works.  I will probably order a spare also.
