Ti 15 can i use 18 v batts

I learned the hard way ---- can use a 15v in an 18v but can't go higher voltage in a lower voltage tool.
I ended up selling the ti15

Ok thanks guys was gonna buy the bare unit but am not buying 15 v batts i will stick pwith my millwaulkee impact for now untill festool get their finger out and bring an 18 v impact out

I posted a suggestion to the Festool Wish List a while back asking for the ability to use a higher voltage battery than a tool is rated for.  Festool would need to include circuitry in a battery so it would detect the voltage the tool would expect and reduce the battery voltage.  The tool wouldn't get any more power but the battery could provide a longer run time.

Since I own a T18, not being able to reuse my batteries kept me from purchasing a TI 15

Yeah me too i have 4x18 v batts i have the new c18 and the new sds my only small battery is my old c12 which i will never sell btw its my baby

Or don't bother with the 14.4v tools.  I don't see any point in why festool still make 14.4 tools.
They started with the 14.4 and then started making 18v which can accept down to 10v 12v and 14.4v

Now that their higher VOLT tools accept lower volt batteries why even bother making and selling 14.4 tools.

Great example is the T15 and T18 why would any one now even buy the T15???  Size weight is identical only slight differences are power and cost.  I personally think festool should stop making the T15 it's become obsolete.

If people want 14.4 volts or 18v then the batteries are just different but the tool is the same.

So if you want a T15 you actually get a T18 with T15 batteries.

That would be a lot easier  than redesigning batteries to reduce voltage output.

As a T18 owner it was all about using 18v batteries in a TI 15 since Festool didn't make a 18v impact tool.  There are a lot of people out there with older drills and it would also allow them to invest in the larger batteries and still leverage their investment in their existing tools.

I agree with you that I don't see a reason to purchase a 14.4 v drill today.

I know what you are getting at.  I am one of those people. I own 14.4v at the time that's all festool made.  I would now never buy any 14.4 festool tools.  I don't mind so much getting a higher voltage tools and not being able to use the batteries on my 14.4v drill.  It would be nice but I can use my 14.4v on the new higher volt tool so it's a bonus. Plus the Chargers will charge any voltage.

I'm just going to wait till my 14.4v drill dies and might just buy T18 naked. I have chargers and I have batteries 14,4 and 18v or a might buy it with batteries I don't know. I'll see what the cost difference is at the time.  Which I think will be very soon my T15 isn't feeling very well any more.

I've got a C15 and Ti15 and probably about 7 15V batteries in all that I use between them and as extra oomph for my Syslites. They all run off the chargers for my 18V's and that's ok.

In the 18V stable I've got TSC, CARVEX, PDC and BHC.

Moving forward I don't think I'd leap at any new 15V Festools .. but I also don't believe there'll be any.

With the C18 coming, all I'd need would be a new Ti18 to flush the 15v's out of my collection. That's when my son's tool collection tends to grow - when I upgrade stuff [wink]

I own the c18 naked  i use my bhc 18 v 5.2 batts in it only problem i have to remove the rubber protectors to fit the belt clip when ime roofing or studding the bhc dont need belt clips as it is integrated into the bhc itself easy enough to do but i know they will get lost at some point Ps the c18 is awsome and its lighter than my old c12
