ti15 drill chuck problem?

Hi. In the weekend I was drilling some long 200mm holes @ 12mm diameter for bolts going through two posts.  Quite a few posts to do. I was using my fairly new Ti15 drill with its standard chuck, without the adapter thingy. The drill got rather hot and kept cutting out and making that fgestool beep, which I am aware it's supposed to do. I guess warning me to give it a rest and let it cool down a bit. Checked the battery and replaced it with a fully charged one.  Still got the beep. So even after half an hour of not using it, it still beeped, and the drill would only turn a fraction then stop. I waited even longer. Same result. I thought I must have overcooked it, so cursed as swore as you do. I decided to take a break and put it away and proceeded to take the drill bit out and the drill chuck off the drill. Lo and behold the drill came back to life. What the ? I then put the drill chuck back on and all good. I don't understand what made the drill stop like that? I tried it again last night and inadvertantly held the chuck too long and must have jammed the chuck open and for the life of me, could not get the chuck to close again,  and it kept beeping whenever I turned it on. I finally got it to come loose and tighten down and back open and all is well now. But what I would like to know is, is this the same issue I had in the weekend, the drill chuck causing the drill to stop? Why would the chuck do this?

I think that you had two different issues.  If you were drilling - did you have the drill in the drill mode versus the drive mode.  It will beep and stop in the driving mode when the intended torque is reached.  It will also cut off and beep if it gets too hot and wants to protect itself.  Check you settings and try again.

The electronics are smart.  The chuck is dumb.

Hmm, The drill was cutting out and beeping even when the drill was away from the posts, i.e not in anything, so I assumed it was because of overheating, so I let it cool down. But even when it cooled right down it still would not work and kept beeping. Only once I took the chuck off did it suddenly come back to life, so in theory it can't have been overheating, nor any over torquing. Something in the chuck it appears to me is cutting out the drill.

You may want to talk to JMB as he is the resident expert on the Ti15.  [big grin]

Seriously, talk with Festool service or your dealer, maybe try another one from the dealer if possible.
