This method is more suited for longer term storage, so if your going to be using the tube in the next day or so it’s probably not worth the effort.
For longer term storage, I use hot melt glue to reseal the tip, 1st run a ring of glue around below the open tip and let it setup a little, then apply a bead covering the open tip.

It works for other open containers as well - super glue bottles, etc.

...EDIT - 2nd pic removed so we don't violate any "no caulk tube policies" ...Said it was good for other things, that would not have crossed my mind as an application! Ha

Man, I just have to tell this story...

I was clicking around on the forum a few minutes ago at work and i got to this thread and opened it... well after a few seconds later, it didn't load... instead it loaded with a message from my IT department saying i am in violation of browsing policy and that I will be talked to by the head of IT. (by the way... I am the head of my company!)

I tried a few other posts and all worked fine, thought it was a fluke and went back to the page ... same notice.

SO I picked up my phone and did it there and it worked fine.  Called my IT guy and asked what the deal was...

It was that 2nd photo... it is a bit "phallic" and our content filter picked it up.

A little off the topic but i thought i would lighten the day a bit.  Thanks for sharing!!

Great tip, thanks James.  I typically use plumber's putty...also works great on tubes of caulk, construction adhesive, etc.

LOL Bryan...

As a glazing contractor, I use a lot of caulk.  I take regular shipping tape and wrap around the nozzle, closing the resulting tube from the tube towards the tip.  After closing the tip, I push caulk up into the tape.  I keep caulk and mirror mastic alive for weeks in this manner.
