Top Storage on T15 systainer

Not much because the latch can inadvertently come open (fairly easily) and dump the contents out all over the floor. Good idea, poor execution on the latch, I would expect better from Festool.

Ditto, I did modify the engageing NUB (added to it) on the latch with some 2P10 jel  now it  works better

i had the latch open up unexpectedly in a clients house, right at finishing time. now all it collects is fresh air!
it is useless without a decent latch.

maybe I'm just lucky or something but I have had no problem with mine coming open.  However, I don't cart it around for a living either.  It pretty much sits on top of my CT22.  The main lid does get opened and closed quite a bit so there is still the opportunity for the upper storage latch to pop open.  It hasn't.  It has a good "snap" to it when I lock it.  I store my bits in it.

Mine has not come open yet, but I have only used it in my shop and in my son's house when we installed his new kitchen cabinets.  I use it for the larger drill bits and driver bits that I have, e. g., the Kreg Pocket Hole bits and the stepped drill bits for Confirmat screws, in there for right now.  I will have to examine the latch more closely.  It didn't seem to have a problem when I have used it, but as I said, I don't move it around a lot.

I transferred the lid to my sys 5 that houses my compressor, guns, and hose.  I keep 15 ga, 18 ga, and 23 ga pins in the top attic.  Love it .  I haven't had any problems with the top inadvertantly opening.  Just lucky I guess.

If anybody hates their lids, I'm in the market......

I haven't had the catch open by accident, but I have forgotten to close the catch and then opened the main Systainer lid! The result was a collection of screwdriver and drill bits all over the floor, but it was my fault.

The same potential problem exists for most similar designs of a toolbox with a lid-within-a-lid. I have a top-loading fishing tackle box that has emptied the contents of its "attic" when I forgot to close the (very secure) latches on the attic lid. Must have done that about 4 times now!

I guess a sprung catch on the attic lid would help in this regard, as you couldn't forget to close the catch.

Forrest

I have my bits and some vix bits.  I too had mine come open, but it was my fault.  I had not closed it properly.  Once burned once learned.  I check it now after use, and have not had a similar event since.  Mines fine.

Sounds like some work as they should and some don't, if you have a latch that doesn't work, why not return it and get a new one?

I've got two, neither locks very securely. I don't think its a matter of having a bad latch(s) it's seems more likely to me to be the design. I bet the guys that haven't had problems will sooner or later.

My latch for the attic lid is pretty tight so far, hasn't opened on it's own. The right half of the attic is dividing into the little spaces with the dividers. I keep various common screw types and sizes in each space. The left half of the attic is open so that I can put day/job specific items in there for ready access. If I'm doing REO inspections, I put long screws, extensions and bits in there. If I'm doing fixture installs I put anchors, small L brackets, plugs, etc in there. I keep long screws and spade bits in the spaces under the drill.

How do you get the lid of a systainer? I tried to swap some lids out but there's this stabilizer bar at the back that prevents me from accessing the hinges from the inside.

What's the best way to get it out?

craig,  thanks for the youtube.  that makes for a great storage box for the nail guns and the 2p10 to boot !

Thanks for making the video and uploading it.

However I'm having problem understanding the commentary in two places. Can you tell me what you are saying within the following sections:

I ran a bead of ...... then I filed it

and

The next thing I did was ....... much more comfortable

Many thanks

Forrest

Forrest, I listened to the audio.

The first instance you were looking for is that he ran a bead of 2P10 - a glue manufactured by fastcap on the one piece and a bead of 2pmedium on the other to build up the areas.  He then filed them to get them to latch more securely.

I think in the second question he said that he installed a solid panel from tanos which was more sturdy?

He said solid handle. The Tanos handle is solid while the Festool version of the handle has ribs.
