Hi can anybody help me , can you plug a 110 volt transformer into a 240 volt midi extractor and it still work on auto auction TIA

Do you know that from experience?  I don't see why that would happen. If a tool isn't plugged into the transformer with it's power switch activated no current will flow thru the transformer.  If there are other electronics in a transformer (thus it's more than just a transformer), then maybe it would trigger the vaccum.

when I lived in the UK, I brought my US tools. I used a tranny, I plugged my CT into the tranny and my tools into the CT. I had no problems.

Now if your takling about plugging the CT into a outlet and a tool into the tranny, it would be the same as plugging the tool directly into a outlet. Youd have to manually turn the CT on/off and then use the tool

A bit of AC power theory for those that may be confused by what happens in a transformer.

When a transformer is connected to power it immediatly draws current but as the current waveform is at almost* 90° out of phase with the voltage waveform very little power is consumed. As the plugged in power tool is switched on the phase angle between current and voltage waveforms is reduced resulting in power draw.

If the CT triggers on current draw it will activate as soon as a transformer is plugged in.

* I say almost as there are always some losses in a transformer that will consume a small amount of power.

The 110volt transformers used in the UK for Building Site work will trigger the Autostart function on a CT dust extractor no matter whether there is a tool connected to the transformer or not.
95% of the power tools I own are 240volt, but I do have 3 or 4 110volt tools. One of which is a 110volt router that i use in my router table. I plug the router into the transformer, then plug the transformer into the 240volt CT26 outlet set to AutoStart and the CT fires up straight away......It does not matter whether the Router is turned on or not, the CT will run continuously until the transformer is unplugged from the CT or you set the CT switch to off.

My understanding of this is, that the 110volt transformer draws just enough current, even without any load on it, to activate the sensor in the CT and turn it on.

Didnt happen to me. I plugged the tranny in the wall and the CT into the tranny in fact 2 CTs a CT 26 for  TS 55 , CMS w TS 75 and OF 2200 modules, sanders, dominos etc and a Tranny for my CT 22 which was plugged into my Kapex. I used adapter that I had made with 2 USA stile plugs and plugged it into the tranny and into Both CTs.

All worked like normal, CT came on when the tool was energized not before.

The question was what happens when you plug the tranny into the CT.

In your case you plugged the CT into the tranny which is a totally normal operation.

As Bohdan said, what you did whilst in the UK is not what the OP was asking!...... The OP wants to use a 240volt CT and plug a 240volt to 110volt drop down transformer into it to then power his 110volt tool.

The transformer will draw enough current ON ITS OWN to trigger the CT AutoStart function. It will not matter whether there is a tool plugged into the transformer or not.....! This happens on all 3 of my CT's , a CT11, a CT26 and a CT Midi.

I get it. either he has to buy a new CT or live with it being on and having to turn the wall switch on and off or leave it run.

Som folks leave it run like a reg DC and unplug when theyre done for the day. I guess he has decisions to make

Last time I checked you need to pull a certain minimum before the vac turns on. Not sure what that limit is though.

If the zero-load of the 110V transformer triggers it, you might consider modding the vac so it triggers at a higher current draw.
