Guys can you tell me your thoughts on a Trion 300 vs PS420, having a quick look at the specs the Trion seems a lot more powerfull than the 420, & a bit cheaper.

I realise the 420 is newer but are there any advantages over the Trion.

I may want to cut 100mm in timber as we sometimes have to trim newel posts in position for fitting stair lifts to gain the extra bit of leg room.

thanks

I'd probably invest in the Trion. A solid performer with a proven track record.

I used to own a Carvex 400 but I think that was a waste of my money. I haven't seen the 420 but I've seen encouraging reviews of it.

There's a few 420 owners on the forum that are very happy with it. One that comes to mind is Peter Parfitt. He's also made a nice youtube video review of it. He's a very helpful guy and I'm sure he won't mind to answer any questions you might have about it.

If you don't mind the money and set really high standards for your jigsaw, there's another out there that isn't green.

i have a trion.
it cuts great. iv cut with the long blade and it was good. no complaints . well visibility is the only one
i cant see myself needing the carvex. the bases are cool thow.

Does the Trion have a light on it?

I tried the Hilti for a day & a good powerful saw, but no light, even my old makita has a light

No the trion doesn't have a light. I went for the trion even though I have about 4 Bosch jigsaws. It's a good solid simple tool and cuts really square.

I have a cordless version of carvex 420 it is streets ahead of the trion which I also own in my opinion
, but why not try them both and choose yoursell

lack of a light on the trion may edge me towards the 420 but looking at the maffel v 420 on you tube it struggled on thick timber whick like I mentioned I sometimes have to trim 100mm newel posts down the length of the newel so the depth of cut/squareness is important

Think I would rather do (in situ ) newel posts with a handsaw much better job

we can't always start from the top we sometimes have to take a section out which means doing a box cut part of the way through then use the end of the hand saw to work through the remaining section.
started looking at the mafell today £70 more than the 420 now I am really confused which to buy

The Mafell is likely better, but only with their special extremely expensive Cunex blades. The carvex 420 now also had its own special thicker blades.
The 420 is a decent jigsaw, but T-loc, plug-it and rail base make it the best jigsaw in my workflow.

I also think that the comparison videos you are mentioning are nothing more than propaganda, the mafell is lower so it was cutting through the timber, the taller carvex didn't go through at all times. Which any jigsaw user knows will give a terrible cut. Everything in those tests was done to make the mafell look better (test was done by mafell dealer who had issues with festool)

I had the Trion 300 to replace a old bosch
for the price i dont think its that good of a saw
I have a cordless PS400 now its really hand been cordless plenty of power and i don't think there is a better cordless jigsaw
However the blade  jumps out the guide at time and it can wander and i only use festool blades
so if you want a cordless buy festool
or if its corded go for the mafell

I have too agree with this.. I got the 420 as i wanted a cordless jigsaw, if i wanted a mains powered saw i would of got the Mafell.

The Mafell blades are definately more expensive. You should also know they last about 3-4 times as long as the Carvex blades for the same workload, since there are no brackets or guide roller wrubbing against the blade. So in my books, it about evens out.

the mafell I found about £70 dearer excl tax, the only thing annoying me is I don't think I can use the festool guide rail with it
