Trion or Carvex for Collins Coping Foot?

Ok gang, guide me!!

I'm updating my jigsaws. While my ultimate goal is to have a P1cc as my primary jigsaw (hopefully later this year), it is not compatible with the Coping Foot, and besides I'd like to have a dedicated saw for coping so I'm not constantly swapping bases.

That being said, I'd like for my coping saw to be a Festool. The question then becomes, given that I am ONLY looking to use this saw for use with the coping foot, is there any reason that the Carvex would perform any better than the Trion?

If I buy a Recon Trion and appropriate coping foot I'm looking at $250+tax, if I go with a Recon Carvex and corresponding coping foot I'm looking at $340+tax. At this point, unless someone comes up with a compelling argument to sway me, I'm inclined to go with the Trion.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I power cope with an older dedicated Bosch barrel grip and the Collins foot.  No dust collection when I cope, so I'm not concerned

about it being Festool.

Not having used the Trion with the coping foot, I can say the Carvex is wasted as a dedicated coping tool.

If you where to purchased the Carvex and add the Collins base to the kit?  The bases change so quickly on the Carvex, it may affect

your decision.

Collins has a model specific to the Carvex.

Thanks for the info Samo!

Yeah, I'm mostly looking at the Trion because, as a Recon, it's nearly down to the price of a Makita, and I prefer to send my tools in to Festool for service vs. the local repair shop. And, tool comes in a Systainer with insert, Plug-It compatibility, etc.....

If the Carvex would serve as a superior coping saw to the Trion I'll definitely go that way but, given that the P1cc is my preferred option for general jigsaw work, the ability to quickly swap bases isn't as big of a deal to me.

don't have a trion, but can tell you that the carvex with the quick change base system, makes swapping out the base with the collins coping foot a breeze.  I used to have a dedicated bosch just for this purpose and now just bring the carvex.  You will have to remove the wire hoop in the front of the carvex though.

Tom, based on your criteria, unless having the Carvex's light would be an aid, the Trion would work fine.

The Carvex's light doesn't work when the Carvex is held upside-down, as in coping, so this is not an issue.

Go with the Triton, it's not very practical if you need change bevels. The tool and process needed to change the foot angle is slow, tedious, and not easily repeatable. I use an old Bosch jig saw as a dedicated coping saw and suffer with the Triton for the rest of my jig saw tasks. The Mafell is awesome but over priced for a jig saw which is why I'm getting the Carvex.
