Shims for using the Domino -- If you are in need of elevating material by some small amount or offsetting the Domino by a small increment, the Domino's 3 best friends are:
(1) thin MDF (such as 1/4")
(2) a Performax thickness sander (or equivalent)
(3) thin double-stick carpet tape
Build an inventory of 1/16, 1/8, etc strips and pieces. Also make some strips and pieces in metric units such a 2, 3 and 4 mm. Work out of this supply, don't live hand-to-mouth or you will kill all kinds of time. If you do not have one of the thickness sanders, find a fellow woodworker who does and have them do it for you. Two tips: (1) have adequate dust collection and dust masks (2) you do not need fine sandpaper, medium will be great.
Just tack the pieces of mdf in place with the double stick tape to support/align the Domino in a wide variety of configurations
The above technique is great when working with the 4mm Domino bit with 1/2" material.
