Well I finished that flooring project this weekend and I must say the saw never chipped a single piece of flooring. I started off in the garage however after I noticed there was very little to no dust I moved into the house and cut down a little walking. For those of you that are worried about weather or not the vac really works, take a look at these pictures.

Ho hum, another dustless job.  Welcome to the club Ed.  You've just discovered the magic of dustless woodworking.  ;D

I think I have you beat though.  I've been working on my master bathroom remodel for several months.  The bathroom is off of the master bedroom (duh).  It is a rare day that ANY dust gets tracked into the bedroom.  My honey hasn't worried about dust and dirt for a long time.  ;D

Now if Festool would get that Kapex over here...

Regards,

Dan.

That "little" walking makes a huge difference in terms of effeciency. You may not realize at first, but you start getting projects done so much faster when you're able to cut where you are working. That aspect is what initially pushed me over the edge to buy my TS55. That aspect has also paid for the tool a few times over already. That's why I always just roll my eyes when I see someone knock Festool on other Forums because of its price. They don't realize how much that little bit of walking adds up. I'd estimate it saved me at least 20 working hours over the course of last year. At the rate that I gouge... err charge my customers ;D , that adds up to significant profits.

Ed,

Just noticing your set-up with saw, vac and a couple of saw horses with a sheet of ply (perhaps).

Are you just free-handing the saw?  Or is there a short piece of guide that I don't see?

How did this go, time-wise, compared to using a compound miter saw?

I ask, because even though I have a TS-55, vac, MFT & guides, I still gravitate toward the "heavy iron" for most projects.

Loren,

I used one of the guides I think it was the 55" guide that I bought when I purchased the saw. Good point about the compound miter saw, I have a very good one but I don't believe I could of gotten the same clean cut. If I had used the compound miter saw, I am sure I would have had to do all my cuts in the garage.
Now this is no means a "heavy iron" type of a job, I did not want to miss lead anyone this is Pergo flooring, not solid hardwood and I bought a special festool blade to cut it.
Time wise probally about the same, easy of use the festool way, clean working area, this also goes to the TS-55 and the vac.
So it is a personal choice, I also have a lot more  to do and will use the festool saw.
