Well, I just pulled the trigger on a 55REQ and a Kapex...thump, thump, thump...  It's a big nut, but it had to be done.  My only concern with the purchase is the possibility that the Kapex will be updated in the next year.  I could have gotten along with my Makita LS1212 for another year, so I hope that update doesn't happen.  Believe me, I know the Kapex is a great saw, but still, I waited this long, so I hope I don't regret not waiting another year.  I just like the idea of having the current model for a number of years.
At any rate, I know that 55REQ will be current for a while.  That's actually why I decided to update my ATF55.  Call it a sickness...my wife does.

Congrats Derek!  As I say, Carpe Diem!  It doesn't appear that the Kapex will be seeing any design changes soon...look at the 55 to the 55R...at least a 7 year span for a few feature upgrades. I'd say your safe from regrets!  Either way, enjoy it like today is the last day on earth!!!

Congrats! Way to start out !

Kapex was designed in 2008 I believe could see a refresh but zero rumblings in the rumor world as far as I know. Anyway you could easily sell it, recoup and buy again. This Stuff holds its value well.

Enjoy your new tools!

Enjoy the new toys  ;D
I feel the same way about wanting the newest tool. I worry about updates on a few of my purchases, most recently the RAS 115. I do not use my tools very often because I'm only a hobbyist and I plan to have these tools for a long time. If I used the tools to make money I wouldn't worry too much about when the tool was going to be updated because they would be making me money now. I'm just now getting into quality hand tools and I don't have to worry about them in the same way as a power tool. I might just have to get a TS55R myself  [big grin]
