I've had my TS 75 EQ for about 8 months and twice now I've seen smoke come out of the motor after a heavy cut.  I know I'm asking for a lot out of the saw by frequently cutting 9/4 walnut so I've taken to making multiple passes to get through thick material and running the saw unloaded so the cooling fan can work after a heavy cut.  Still, the saw claims to have overheat and overcurrent protection.  Shouldn't it shut it's self down before it gets hot enough to smoke?

It should, but the theory doesn't always translate to practice. I've had the same with a T15 I was using heavily the other day, no smoke, but I could smell it burned inside.

Of course it's possible the sensor developed a fault, and you won't know until the motor starts to burn.

Yes. your saw is too young to smoke. It could have same foreign matter inside that gets hot after some prolonged heavy cuts but something does not seem right. BTW, are you ripping and cross-cutting with the fine-pitched blade? If so, you may want to change to either a ripping blade when doing so or the standard/universal (whichever they are calling it now) blade that has quite a few less teeth than the fine pitched blade. Either way, if the saw is truly overheating it should be shutting down.

It's possible that something's wrong with the sensor for the thermal overload or like Greg suggested there could be dust or something else inside the saw that's getting hot. As Greg eluded to, you may want to consider the type of blade you're using and that the blade is cleaned and sharpened regularly.

If you'd like to have us take a look at it for you, we pay for shipping to and from our service center during the first year of warranty. You can call the number below in my signature to make arrangements or contact me directly for assistance.

Welcome to the forum. I wish it were under better circumstances that you made your first post.

I wonder how sharp the blade is ..  The amount of work a motor spinning a blade needs to do is 50% how hard the product is and 50% how sharp the blade is ..

Okay the % are mine..  lol

Sorry guys, I made my first post and forgot to check back..... Thanks for the responses.  I probably am due for a blade sharpening and I only have two medium/universal blades for the saw.  I do plan to purchase some lower tooth count blades for these long rips.

It sounds like it would be wise for me to send it in to have the temp sensor checked out while it's on warranty.  Even if I have to pay for a rebuild every few years the saw will still be a good investment for me but I'd rather prevent it if I can.
