Ts55 guide rail splinter gaurd strip

So I used my ts55 for the first time yesterday is it normal for the first cut to take out the clear splinter guard strip, the strip seems to be cut very close to the edge of the metal rail now. Thank
 
That is exactly what should happen on the first cut. Now you have the splinter guard cut at the edge of your blade so you can line up the splinter guard on your cut mark and know the cut will be where you want it.
 
Angle cuts are designed to align to the same location on the splinter guard as 90 degree cuts.

So once the guard is cut to your saw, you're good at any angle.
