TS55 in CMS-module, trigger not locked

When mounted in the CMS (or Basic) module, the trigger of the TS55 is locked in place by a C-form clip. With the trigger locked, you can operate the saw through the mainswitch on the CMS table. After switching modules recently, I found that the C-clip was too loose. Pushing the mainswitch on did not start the saw.
Following the power from source (wall socket) to the saw, I found the disengaged trigger on the saw. With a little fumbling the trigger was locked again, but I will make a new C-clip from a scrap of aluminium. To my opinion, this plastic C-clip is rather thin and will creep open over time. It should be reinforced to live up to Festool standard.
I will send a message to the Dutch Festool rep.
Anybody else having this problem?

Wim,

I've got an ATF55 in the Basis table, but I never had any problem with the trigger clip.

Wim, can you maybe do a review of the CMS? We in the States don't know very much about this tool.

Sure I will write a review. As soon as I can free the table from my productionline, I will make some pictures. I hope I can remove all accumulated saw dust to let it shine in its full glory. I am in the process of finishing the first part of my tiny workshop, a workbench with a drawer-chest underneath.
I have one big disadvantage. I have never seen a Basic table, so I can not compare both tables.
I hope to post the review in a few days.

I would have to agree the little green plastic clip looks flimsy but it has never failed on me. I also own an old ATF 55 and it is still doing great service in the Basis table, 6 years after I bought it. :)

Good luck contacting the Dutch service reps though, it took a long time for them to get back in touch with me when I had a problem. However, I was eventually telephoned at home, which was a nice surprise!

Same here (touch wood!)  Since they brought out the TS55 I leave the ATF55 in the Basis module, so I guess the clip doesn't get any wear.  There's a similar one for the planer which also seems to be holding up.

seems it's a long on going situation, Festool are making things cheaper i.e. less well made, my "c" clip has given up and i'm looking for an alternative,

I moved my CMS-table and TS55-insert to the USA. I installed a USA-bought TS55 in the table and locked the trigger with a tie wrap. And it works as before. I use the TS55 as a stationary saw and bought a Makita saw for the MFT/3. It fits perfectly on the rails and even on anti-splinter strip.

No issues with my CMS TS-75. The clip looks like it should fail, for me it has not.

Mine has not failed either in the 3 years I have had it. If it does, I would simply use a cable tie on the trigger. (A sparky's best friend!)

There are so many Festools (and probably tools from other European brands) that we never see here in the States. Has anybody had both the original TS55 EQ and the newer REQ or maybe just used both? The newer version does seem to have some neat features although it might really have been incredible if they upped the power a bit. Does the newer version lend itself more to integration into a CMS?

the TS 55 and 55 REQ are/were both here.  I have the 55 "the old one" which i got right as the recall happened.  I had to have a saw and even through i really wanted the REQ, there was no estimate at that time when it would be out of recall.  The only feature I wish i had was the marker for on and off the track, but that doesnt really bother me in my usage.

I also have the 75 and that is where it is for the CMS.  The 55 and 55 REQ actually have two different plates for the CMS... other than that, they are going to be about the same in their usage under a CMS table.

Cheers.  Bryan.
