TS55 not running at full speed. Electronics? Thermal cut out?

Hi all.

I had been using my 2007 TS55 to cut aluminium using Festool's negative rake alu blade, taking 2 or 3mm per pass. The saw didn't like it a did that reduced power, thermal cutout (?) thing. I guess I'd pushed it too hard, though I thought I wasn't. A couple of days later and it's still not running properly. It feels electronic. Anyone have any experience of this? I'm wondering about buying the "electronic" component (204693 for my 230v machine) and fitting that. Any thoughts gratefully received.

Welcome to the forum Tom.

I’m sure that those who know much more than I will be able to help you.

Somethings not right there, I’ve cut 5/16” and 3/8” thick alum plate with a TSC 55 and the standard Festool alum blade. I believe I cut it at speed 3 and at full depth. Just used a little blade lubricant in wax form and didn’t really push the saw, everything was good.

Maybe your saw was on the ropes prior to cutting the aluminum?

Thanks Cheese. I agree, it shouldn't have been much trouble for the saw. I'm sending off to Festool today and hope they aren't going to charge me an arm and leg to fix. I quite like the idea of giving it an all-over refresh but keeping the old girl going. We've got a lot of history.... Better that than landfill!
