TS55 stalling problem

Hi All,

Hoping this isn't too redundant as I've looked on the board and not seen rebuild as a solution for this problem.

My TS55 (10yrs old) with a fes 48 tooth blade cannot cut the length (96") of a 3/4 sheet of bb plywood in a single pass.  At ~ 1/2 way I get a stall, then it's hit/miss how many more times it stalls the remainder of the cut.  Is it simply time for new bushings?  The saw doesn't sound funky and not sparking as I would expect. 

This problem has been getting worse over the past few mos.  I don't use the saw all that much so hard to recall when I started having issues.  Certainly wasn't the case when new.

Is the blade sharp?

I can tell a lot of difference between a sharp blade verses a dull one. Also, if the blade is dirty, it won’t cut good. Cleaning the pitch helps more than you would think.

Yes, the blade is sharp.  When I started having this issue, I bought a new blade.  I have both a Fes 48tooth and a knock off Oshlun, same behavior.

Then it does sound like it has a problem. It's hard to say what exactly would cause it to stall as there are probably a number of things, both mechanical and electronic that it could be. If you're comfortable working on power tools, I'd say just take it apart and start looking for anything obvious.

These saws do have a thermal cutoff that will stall them when it overheats... If the temp sensor was intermittently faulty it could cause that behaviour (whereas something introducing friction would be more likely to trigger a genuine over-temperature cutoff, which would take a while to cool down enough to work again - that doesn't sound like what you're experiencing)

The temp sensor (called 'PTC resistor' in the parts catalogue) is relatively cheap, so might be an easy fix. Not sure how you would be able to confirm it was that without just buying one to try, given that it seems to be an intermittent fault.
