TS75 tearing up splinter guard at 45 degree cut

I am trying to make a mitered rip cut with my TS75. To do this I am just setting the cut angle of the saw to 45 degrees. The first time I did this it took a huge chunk out of my splinter guard [sad], so I tightened my tension adjusters for the track to take out even the slightest of play (it cuts beautifully at 0 degrees with no problems). I grabbed my other rail and did a small test cut and see if that made a difference. Sure enough it cut the splinter guard down right to the aluminum track [mad]!

grrrrrr

Two splinter guards down and those puppies are not cheap. Has anyone else had this problem? Am I missing something? Is there a solution?

thanks,

First off, welcome to the Forum.

As designed the saw should not take out any additional material from the splinterguard at 45 degrees.  That said, I have occasionally experienced a slight nibble from the guard when doing mitre cuts, though nothing as extreme as what you're talking about.

Couple things to check for.  First is cutting method.  The TS75 is pretty top heavy, and so if you're not careful about holding the base plate flat on the track when it's locked in at a steep bevel angle it can tip inwards, which could account for the additional material being removed.

One other thought: Are you confident that the saw is correctly adjusted?  When you lock in the bevel angle, do you tighten the back knob first and then the front.  Sometimes one can lock it in slightly skewed, which may account for some of the bite it's taking out of the guard.
