When I saw people storing their guide rails and other things on the back of the garage door, I thought it was a good storage idea, but now I'm having second thoughts about that.
Last week, I found out that my garage door (with nothing kept on it) had five broken or cracked hinges due to metal fatigue from regular use. I welded them back, or you can find them at any of the big box hardware store. (I lubricate the hinges and tracks before every winter.)
The point is that if you're going to put weights on your garage door, make sure you check the hinges regularly for signs of damage. It could be a pretty expensive fix if your door comes apart in the middle of a travel up or down, depending on what (the door, motor, guide rail(s) or all of them?) gets broken or damaged. One option is to store only the very long pieces on the door and keep any other shorter ones and accessories elsewhere.

Still interested in the TSO mounting. Thanks

I’ve got my 55” rail mounted to my garage door and looking to get a 118” as well. I can’t mount my TSO guides to the door, since it’s vinyl and can only mount to the supports.
I wish TSO would have incorporated a mounting hole pre-drilled into the guides. I don’t want to drill into them myself. I will find some wall space and a method to mount them vertically.
