Twin Bed

I built a bed for my niece.  The rails are 4/4 poplar connected to the headboard using 2 DF500 connectors + a 8mm domino on each joint.

The posts are actually 4/4 poplar cut to 1.5" then dominoed together to make 2.5" posts (jointed down to 2.25").  The headboard and footboard's frame are silver maple.  I'm super impressed with the dust collection of the OF2200 while routing the profiles.  The field of the headboard and footboard are 3/8" poplar captured in the frame with a bead profile at the transitions between the 5" wide pieces.

The cross slats are 1x4" pine.  4 of them are held in place with dowels.  The rest are connected with 2" wide poly straps.  Gravity would have done the job, but I figured I might as well over doit.

It is finished with white BM Advance.

I've had a lot of trouble posting more photos; but here is another go.

I couldn't get any thick enough wood for the posts; so instead I made them out of 4 pieces, using 6mm dominos to align them.  You can see that some of the pieces are not exactly straight; so there was a lot of clamping to persuade them.  After they were dry, I ran them through the jointer/planer so they were nice and smooth without any gaps or visible seams.

This is definitely one of those cases where you can never have too many clamps.

To align the post caps, I used dominos.  With this project, I found it much easier to build jigs and use the base of the domino than try to use the fence for alignment:

The head board glued up and clamped.  Getting the slats to align right was a bit of a challenge.

Thanks for sharing your project. I built a king bed frame of quarter sawn white oak. It turned out nicely, but I’d be hard to convince to build another
