UJK Tech Parf Guide and bits: advice for order

I’m in Australia (strewth), about to build a Paulk workbench. I’m going to use Peter Parfitt’s parf guide system to do the worktop.

We don’t seem to be able to get the Mark II parf guide here in Aus at the moment, so it looks like I’ll have to get it from Axminster in the UK. Thought I’d run my order thoughts past you guys to see if I’m forgetting anything useful - may as well get a few Axminster-only bits while I’m buying internationally.

So:
  • UJK parf guide system MarkII
  • Dogs - I’m going to assume the UJK flavours are a perfect fit for anything built with the jig, so was thinking of a couple of super dogs, and maybe a couple of 12mm and 50mm dogs. 6 in all plus the dogs that come with the jig should give me something to start with.
  • Some Axminster trade quick release clamps - look the same as the festool QR’s, but nearly half the price (Link)
  • parf dog rail clips

They’re out of stock of the parf chamfer tool, but they’re available here in Aus, as are the TSO guide rail squares, which I think will be my next purchase.

Anything else I should think about for setting up a basic cutting station on my Paulk bench? Basic hobby work, building stuff out of rescued/recycled wood, and fixing up the olde house.

Hi. You might want to consider the dust collection hood unless you plan on making your own. Keeping the holes free from debris is supposed to improve accuracy...and well save a lot of brushing and blowing...lol
I ordered mine from Axminster for same reason, I'm in Canada and there were none in NA to be found....shipping was very reasonable...not sure about to OZ.

Good point, Greg. Although at AU$49-ish, it's a pricey addition. Doesn't look too hard to 3D print, so I may do that instead

[member=69245]Bernmc[/member]  you might want to look at John Lafferty dust hood. He is from Australia and make a 3D print dust hood for the Paft guide. It is very well done and sturdy. I got mine and it fit perfectly on the Parft guide first gen. I would think it is the same fit for the Mark II. Look for him on yellowboxshed

Great little resource, [member=66597]Mario Turcot[/member] - he’s got some useful stuff. Thanks

Hadn't picked that up [member=6803]skinee[/member] - thanks. Would have thought the split collar would have been the default considering the price of the kit...

I have ordered my Mk2, and I am in Auckland.

I am yet to make my tabletop though. tinkering the idea of making it out of Saligna I have lying around...

I also ordered a few dogs

the purpose of my table will be for sanding, routing, dominoing. I dont intend to do any cutting on the table top. I have a large panel saw for cutting (sliding carriage is a monstrous 3.8m long, need a clear run of 7.6m tip to tip)

Pulled the trigger on Thurs 13th. Shipping notification today, with an expected delivery Wed 19th (Merry Christmas toooo me!)

I struggle to get local orders delivered in that time frame, so if it all works out, I'll be pretty pleased.

Had to keep the overall order with shipping below the $1000 threshold or the Government takes an extra cut of import taxes - there are a few items I still want, but I can get them in the next order if this one works out well.

Shipping is very reasonable for an international order - around 50-70 Aussie dollars depending on what's in the box

[member=69245]Bernmc[/member] - how was your experience with Axminster direct (although the recent new stock came and went in a flash). What did you end up getting with your PGS system? I'm eagerly awaiting Carbatec's order of Mark II's to arrive to finish my assembly / work bench (in our other shared thread, it's a smal world ;-)

I was looking at buying the mark 2 Parf guide system at the start of the year from Axminster but as we all know they ran out of stock. I’m pleased to hear that shipping is reasonable as I was concerned about that. When do Carbatec expect they’ll receive stock of the mark 2?

I’m still in two minds about making my own MFT or buying a used MFT/3 which can typically be purchased for about $400 less than new when they do come up for sale. I missed out on a used basic MFT for $200 last week which would have been handy!

I have a couple of MFT/3’s and a couple of the MW1000 extension tables which get use a lot, and I like the fact they’re self contained (included attached legs) as it makes them quick to move and set up, I wouldn’t be without them. However, I also have a Mk2 Parf Guide System which has been a godsend.
I now make any replacement tops myself, plus we have made larger cutting stations for breaking down sheet goods, and also on site, we have often made cutting stations very quickly, with just a few accurately marked and drilled 20mm holes with the system.

I am lucky to have both, but would whole heartedly recommend either or both the MFT/3 or the Parf Guide System Mk2.

The MFT is very versatile, and the Parf Guide System opens up a lot of opportunities.

[member=16995]AndrewG[/member] On the 26 Feb, Carbatec advised they had placed their order with Axminster and were expecting 6-8 weeks. Whether or not that order was fulfilled with the small amount recently made (Axminster and TSO came into and out of stock within 2 days) is uncertain, although Peter suggests in another thread that production should be back to normal by now.

[member=70054]Solly[/member] I’ve ordered from Axminster 3 times now, all without a hitch, and they handled the parf issue and replacement very well. International delivery has been very quick - sometimes quicker than local!

I’ve bought an assortment of things, from clamps to router bits to abranet sanding disks. The UJK/own brand stuff has all been good quality.

[member=16995]AndrewG[/member] and for others in Australia, Carbatec have received their shipment of Mark II's and have confirmed with Axminister that these units were made post tweaks to the manufacture process. Although it's not yet up on the website, orders can be placed via phone (mine is on it's way).

Still not stocking UJK dogs so I ordered some 12mm and 50mm dogs, rail clips, and stop collar from Axminster, and the vacuum hood from The Yellowboxshed.

For those in the US, you can get Yellowboxshed items locally from Kentucky - TBDCNC
