Wondering if anyone has imported their Festool gear from the UK. Seems you can get it including shipping for around half the local price. Even if you have to pay 10% Gst at custoims still much cheaper.

I would like to get the Kapex 120, & a domino first up but the local prices are just to huge for my wallet.

Over $1000.00 you also have to pay duty

Questions to ensure answers to..
Do the UK operate on the same voltage/frequency as australia?
can you find someone to sell to you? The dealers would not be able to sell out of region.
if you have someone who can buy for you what is the postage going to be neither of your planned purchases are light and the kapex is bulky so postage could be quite high.
warranty claims might be an issue if you had any problems.

you may have already thought these through but thought I would mention in case

Andrew

Warranty would be my biggest concern. OWhen investigating I didn't see the price differential as high as 50%, that's a surprise! When I factored freight and duty it didn't seem worth it.

US prices would have been worth it ... but 110V was the problem.

Also consider whether you get to claim back the GST - you won't with O/S purchases!

I have been using Festool for a little while and I love it……..Problem is none of the gear I a have been using is mine, once you have used it hard to be satisfied with other brands.

I know of a UK seller who advertises locally. I haven't fully explored it yet but I have heard that UK electics will work on our power locally.

The price I saw advertised included shipping to Aust. I imagine 10% GSt or Duty would need to be payed, still much cheaper.

UK Seller  - all come with Systainers etc.
NEW Festool Circular Saw TS 55 REBQ  -Plus-  FS GB 240v -561583 TS55R  $725 + $80 Shipping

Festool Circular Saw TS 55 REBQ -Plus-  FS GB & CTL Midi Dust Extractor 240v $1380  + $155 Shipping

Festool DOMINO, DF 500 Q -Plus- GB 240v Jointer - 574327  $935 +  $60

Local  - I think these come with Systainers.
FESTOOL Plunge-cut saw (TS 55 R EBQ-Plus-FS)    $999
FESTOOL DOMINO joining machine (DF 500 Q-Plus AUS)    $1,399.00

Might of been a bit embellished with half the price but still much cheaper and haven't factored in all the extras listed with the UK deals……….

Of course warranty could be an issue but isn't Festool not supposed to break down  [wink]

I got a PM telling me I should delete this thread as it is in appropriate for this forum………..Well I want to buy Festool I'm not bagging Festool………I just want to find away I may be able to afford to own my own. So not really sure what the issue is??  Others have already posted so I will let it ride out.  Where else are people who may have bought from overseas going to be found? They are still festool owners and this is an international forum to my knowledge?

This is my first post but have been a lurker for a while, partly because I don't yet own any Festool gear to be able to add comment of value.

Really look at your total cost.

The current Festool Oz promo brochure offers ...

TS55R + CT26 + FS1400 Rail + Rail bag for a total cost of $1895.

http://www.tooltechnicsystems.com.au/files/campaigns/feb-2013/Campaign-Brochure-Stay-Cool-With-Festool-2013.pdf

This is a CT26 over a CT Midi.

Now your UK price with a Midi only is $1380 + $138 + $155 ... thats already $1673 ... for that you get a lesser package. But that's not all, now you have to get a new module for the Ct Midi power outlet, re-terminate the vac power cord and also get a new plug-it lead for the TS55R ... at least $200.

... and still no warranty!!!

Get good and friendly with a local Festool dealer and look for the best times to buy.

Don't under estimate the value of a 3 year warranty and local dealer support. Also make sure you add up the complete cost.

Oz spec machines are a shorter run at Festool Germany ... minor - but yet another price component to be aware of.

Another little thing, if you check the prices on accessories and consumables, they've dropper across the board in the last month.

PM me if you want more detail.

Well, welcome Black Dog.

I can't see a problem with your request & I'm sure a similar question has been raised before.  I see no reason to delete the thread.

I would be surprised if you can get UK tools into OZ cheaper than you can buy locally but good luck anyway.

[welcome]I should have added a welcome to my reply .. if only I had looked at your post tally..

just looked over the forum guidelines and I do not think this post is contravening any of them. There is a comment about  unauthorized, unsafe or illegal activity but this seems to be in relation to tool use, modifications etc the op is not trying to do anything dodgy so unless a moderator or Shane is asking you to delete/ alter the post I would hold off. If it is a moderator then ask for further clarification or reasons.

It is my understanding (as a hobbyist with only this forum and my own inquiries to go by)  that dealers can only sell in their specific regions usually country based. I would check out the dealer thoroughly to make sure they are above board if you decide this is a viable option. Selling out of area would set some alarm bells ringing for me as I suspect the dealer would be in breach of their contract and if they are doing the dirty on their supplier would they do the dirty to their customers?

As for has anyone done this, when the Parallel Guides for the track system came out I had a friend traveling Overseas buy them for me and post them down for me I saved a significant amount because of the strong $AU at the time.  I would be happy to do this again with consumables and accessories but I don't think I would do it for power tools Kev had some really good points in his post as to why.

once again welcome

Andrew

Thanks for the responses guys.

It doesn't seem like any one is buying any of the powered items from OS, some just the accessories.  So maybe there is good reason and I just got a bit eager. I will state that the UK prices I posted weren't the cheapest i have seen, just that the first guy was advertising here from the UK.

Thanks to KEV…I'm not up with the lingo well enough to spot some of the model differences that would potentially be an big disappointment if I ended up with something less than I thought I was getting regardless where I purchased.

I will keep looking locally for a good deal or some second hand gear. I often see the sanders and drills, vacs etc on ebay they usually look pretty grotty which means a tradie life (hard work).  I like to keep my gear looking as close to new as possible and still using it. Also I have never seen a Kapex or Domino for sale 2nd hand maybe they are just too good to part with.

The world is a global economy now, and artificial restrictions on regions I find an outdated concept. What I can understand is local warranty support.

Having lived in many different regions - UK, AUS, NZ, USA, if a manufacturer doesn't honour a worldwide warranty, it bugs me. It also bugs me when there are larger than reasonable price differences by region. ie price difference UK-AUS should be minimal enough that it's not worth the hassle, not so large it makes sense.

However a small distributor shouldn't have to foot the bill if you didn't buy it from their pool so to speak.

Personally I would say anything with a battery should have an international warranty FULL STOP. Larger corded items would be more of a grey area..

Having done a lot of price research, it seems a $$ worthwhile to buy in the UK and and send to AUS, however, you should factor in potential GST, shipping delays, time to research and find the right price, etc. That side of it not be worth it - especially if you cosy up to your local dealer and watch out for the local promotions as was already suggested..

Actually, I would be interested in the terms of the warranty if anyone knows - If I buy my drill here in the UK, move back to AU or NZ, and it craps out on me 6 months or a year later, will Festool look after me? Pretty legitimate scenario..

Guys as far as the subject of this topic goes ... it is fine.  None of the FOG staff made a request that it be removed. And no other member was trying to act as a moderator. Everything is cool with all parties concerned.  [thumbs up]
