Ah, 2% of the richest people pay 80% of all taxes! Why the  do they have to pay the same %, if 1 % of their income is 10 million dollars it is more than you will ever pay in your lifetime and is fine by me.

% payments is a socialistic viewpoint and personally I am tired of all this crap trying to make everyone the same. Everyone is NOT the same. If you think the middle class pays most of the taxes you are misinformed, the rich pay most of the taxes. Most rich people actually just work harder and get lucky. Very few rich people or well off are born into it. Most work like you and me.

I am not rich, actually I am not well off at all and middle class, BUT if you want everyone to be the same go to a Communist country, oops that doesn't work does it.

Not Festool talk, but man I am tired of this. I work my A** off and my neighbor sits on unemployment(making about what he made working!) and the feds keep adding time to it. He just sits there saying he will not work and Obama wants to give him another 6 months off, this is crazy! Unemployment needs to run out after the initial term. I know, we will just ask the rich to pay more taxes so people can stay on unemployment indefinitely because the rich pay a smaller percentage of tax(but a much bigger number overall).

I didn't say, and don't believe, that the middle class pays most of the taxes.  But they generally do pay their fair share, and I can't always say that for rich people.

For the record, I am not a socialist, and made most of my money as a capitalist.

The real shame is, the more taxes that are imposed tend to choke off growth and prosper in the private sector.

You fell for it [tongue] It isn't a poke in the eye, it's what they want. They announced a delayed rise (January 2011) in the hope that people will view it as a deadline & spend money even though they normally wouldn't, at least not yet. They're banking on people spending this money to boost the economy.

do you pay just a vat, or do you have to pay income tax on top of that?

We only have to charge VAT on labour if we are VAT registered, currently about ?60,000 takings or over. Personally I won't ever reach that figure.  But those registered for VAT claim ALL VAT back from Exchequer so not all bad. As I'm not VAT registered I can't claim VAT back on purchases.

Don't care  [tongue] So long as I pay as little as possible to the corrupt ~@%%^^&***?"  as is legally possible. I don't smoke, never have, have knocked going to the pub after work on the head, don't speed or drink drive (stops them getting fines from me) and am careful to keep good notes with my receipts for the accountant. Most holidays are abroad in the camper, cheaper cost of living on mainland europe and when I travel here I avoid any toll bridges/ roads or driving into London wherever possible. Though we did have a great tour of Scotland in 2008 for less than a cheap deal for two to Malaga and met some very nice Scots who made us really welcome.

It's not that I am tight fisted but I care about where my Tax money is spent, and it has/is being frittered away on layabouts, duckponds and moat cleaning..blah blah blah! [big grin]

So back on topic gents! Solutions.........Bank robbing is not a good one as that is just reclaiming our own tax money [wink] ;D
