Upcoming project questions

I have a new project coming up where 3 of the 4 cabinets are floor to ceiling. If I make them in one piece, do you think 1 1/2" short of the ceiling is enough to be able to stand them up without interference? I plan to put some type of crown up to cover the gap anyway.
Second question, the refrigerator is about 36" deep, would it look odd if all the cabinets around it are only 24" deep like a normal base cabinet? I though about making them 30" deep, but they would interfere with the current kitchen cabinets in the corner.
Third, a few of the cabinets will have pull out shelves, would it be a waste to have soft close slides on the shelves? I started to always use them on drawers but not sure if it's overkill for shelves. Thanks in advance gang.

You need to measure the hypotenuse from rear to front, side to side, upper to lower corners to . This measurement needs to be equal to or less than ceiling height.

Go to a 27" deep cabinet. Don't trap the doors between vertical items, they may not swing open if you do. Check with the manufacturer for necessary clearances.

Tom

Maybe not make them one piece. Assemble in place and like tom said, make sure the doors will swing all the way open.

Cheers. Bryan.

Great idea, I can make the toe kick separate. I was planning on putting a 1/4" skin on the one end that shows so that won't be a problem hiding. And Tom I think I'll take your idea and go 27" deep. The cabinets have a face frame so there won't be a problem with clearance.
Now what about soft close slides the the shelves, overkill or not?

See Tom's note on the hypotenuse or arc. The measurement from the bottom corner to the opposite top corner needs to be less than the measurement from the floor to the ceiling.

Depends on the design but I think consistency rules.

No, soft close are always nicer than the regular ones. I like the Grass under mount soft close solution for shelves. If they are trays, rather than shelves any drawer soft close should work.

Want your opinions on this project I'm hopefully going to be starting soon. I have done a lot of  single cabinets like tv stands, display cabinets etc...Recently did a kitchen island for someone. I'd love to get into doing more kitchens. Since I've primarily done my stuff for friends or family I've never really charged that much over the cost of materials. The cabinets will be prefinished 3/4" plywood and maple face frames and doors, painted a light grey. Here's a picture of what we've come up with. The doors will be flat panels instead of raised panels, just didn't update this picture.

The cabinet on the right will have 5 pullout shelves, since the cabinets are all 27" deep
The lower cabinets on the left, will have a garbage can pullout, cookie sheets drawer and utensil drawer similar to this picture. But I'll make my own after seeing the costs of these, wow! Now I see why kitchens go over $20,000 sometimes.

The cabinets above, in the middle, will be pullout trays and a spice rack on each drawer. All cabinets up top will have movable shelves.
So my question to those of you that have done this, what's a guess on total cost for this? I don't wanna charge to little a short myself and don't wanna overcharge either. This is just a hobby, for now anyway. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance gang.

I did something similar to this but there was 10' ceilings so no crown moulding. But if the ceiling is 96" tall I build the cabinets to 90" then add 5" tall board on top about 3/4" back from the face of the cabinet. Screw from inside of the cabinet up.
