US Dealer who ships to APO?

I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to find a US dealer who will ship to an APO address (currently living in Germany). I bought a few things on Amazon and they shipped to APO, but I'm trying to purchase the CMS GE Set and no website or company I've reached out to so far will ship it.

Suggestions?

I lived in Germany for quite a while.  I sometimes shopped Amazon.de, but usually liked to see if I could find a local source.  You might be able to find a German Festool dealer who will take the tax form and save you some money.

Be aware the CMS ships in multiple boxes. The table itself is a large box. I know that you are using Military Mail, but that is transported by the USPS here, you might check into any size and weight restrictions before you move forward.

APO shipping doesn't have to be any more expensive than shipping within the USA.  Companies have to use the APO address rather than the local European address.  Once the packages get to the last US post office (such as NY), the military system picks up and there are no additional fees.  Essentially, the shipper is only paying to the last PO.  For Europe, that's NY. 

I'm not sure why shipping to APO addresses is a problem, but I'd assume the problem is that some companies don't want to handle the customs forms. 

When I was stationed in Stuttgart I did use an APO shipping service a couple of times.  Very expensive and slow.  I found shopping locally a better deal, especially if the dealer accepted the VAT form.  Taking off the 20% value added tax made German sources very competitive.

Having lived in Germany as a military dependent, I'm not clear on why you would not buy local rather than incurring shipping and possible damage costs.

By their agreement they generally should not, but sometimes you can find one that will.

In general I would try dictum.de, and other than the VAT it makes sense.

Getting the 230v versions of tools also makes sense, and then get a transformer when/if you head back stateside...

Thanks Bob. I went with Shop Festool and while they don't have one currently in stock they are still able to ship it to me "free shipping" to my APO. I appreciate everyone's help.

I agree, I've tried explaining that it's really irrelevant to them where I physically am, but as soon as they hear that I want it shipped to "Germany", they are out the door... In this case yes, it is like shipping to NY zip code.

Other than the VAT discount on the front end, I'm wondering if having to deal with transformers for the rest of the life of that tool is worth it for me. That's why I wanted to order some products from the US. Otherwise I could certainly buy local, like Dictum as mentioned where I've bought a few hand tools with a VAT form.

Brother we are in the same boat.
Basically if you have US-220v in a garage back home, then you are set. Or the transformer from 110 to 220v then you are set anywhere.

That opens up all the tools from Europe and the cost savings are notable.

I got comfortable with the trade off, but not everyone is.

For the CMS, maybe a different US router table with an Incra fence would be as good?

Well, the CMS does have the switch, socket and power cord to mains.  So this might be a consideration (don't know myself).

I have a Swiss coffee machine that runs off 220v.  I'd definitely like to have a US model and not have to run the step-up transformer.  I bought my Festool power tools here in the US, so no transformers needed.  But I regret not buying some non-powered Festool gear when I was in Germany.

Buy the CMS in Germany and if you want to use it on 110V just buy the 110V switch as a spare part from the US and swap it over. I'm sure that even with a switch swapover it will be much cheaper than buying it from the states and shipping it. Plus you can get all of the modules that are NAINA.
