I have the opportunity to purchase a few tools that are in great shape used. Each one kinda has a hitch. I am wondering if others whom might be familiar with the tools  might help me come to a decision as to what i should be willing to pay for them.

The first is the Porter Cable Omni Jig. Its like new with all manuals. From what i can tell it retails for $650. The hitch with this tool is that it comes setup only to work in 3/4 stock. 3/8 & 1/2 " is a add on kit and another $2-300! Same goes for the dust collection setup..

The second is a Jet 6" joiner. Its is good used condition. New it retails for the better part of $1000. However it is easily found online shipped to my door for $730. The hitch with this one is it will just tide me over till i can get the Hammer A-3. I am really interested in this piece though as it will be some time before i can get my hands on the Hammer A-3. I also am not wired for 240 or 220 or whatever so this is a good option to get me in a joiner. My intuition is i will always be able to sell ot for a few hundred bucks?

The third is a Delta A-200 air filtration unit. Im also really really interested in this piece as I'm sure it will be short $$$ by comparison to the other two items. It is new in the box banded  and all. The hitch is it is no longer available. I can easily find replacement filters online but for how long will that last?  I also cant find any pricoint to what the unit sold for when it was avaiable.

So what do you all think. The 6" jointer is a good tide me over for the right price or just save my money? Remember i need a full electrical upgrade costing 3-5k before i can buy anything 220-240. The dovetail jig is awesome but whats the right price. And the air cleaner is new and thats awesome but discontinued and by a compamy that is no longer...

I really can't help with the omni jig or air filtration, but my advice on the jointer, is look around and find something which cost less until you can get the hammer.  You should be able to find others on craigslist for reasonable price.  I know buying better tools once is the best method, but this isn't your top choice.  You may be able to find an 8" for close to the same money.

I bought a new ridgid 6 1/8" jointer for $150 when my local hd was getting rid of their stock.  I don't have the room for anything larger.  I really wish I had an 8" or a combo machine like the hammer.

I don't know the price on any of the tools other than what they sold for new.

Any prices stated in my op are the price for the tool new. I am looking to figure out what my bottom line offers should be on these tools.

Dovetail jig you want Leigh.

Save for a Hammer or other combo.

I paid $125 for a jet Air Filtration unit.

I thought it was a great deal but I need to turn it on manually as the circuit board quit shortly after I bought it.

I can get the top of the line Leigh one. From what i gather the setup is quite a bit more complicated hence my interest in the Porter Cable jig. I can probably have either or for a similar price?

So no jointer. I was thinking if it could be had for a few hundred bucks  it would get me through for a couple years while i save for a real machine. The fact is i really need a joiner. My electrical upgrade is really the thorn in my side with regard to the subject. Same guy has a 8" with the Byrd Shelix cutters on it. Not sure of the price on that either but its for sale. The problem becomes its a 220-240 machine and i cant use it!

Gonna talk to the guy tomorrow so anyone who wants to chime in please do or ill be on my own...

This is the joiner:

It depend where you're located at ,I've seen those 6' Jet jointer go from $200-$350 use in excellent condition

I live just outside Boston.

Im thinking no more than $300

The air filter is discontinued and sourcing the filters will be a real PITA as they are a weird size so you cant just use a filter form a home center. I guess its the outer filter that is a weird size but can just be blown or vacuumed. The inner out filter needs to be replaced when dirty.

My concern is finding this inner filter. I found three online retailers that have them but thats it!

Having purchased and sold various ww machinery over the years my rule of thumb for any machinery not European made is 40-50% of new price (street price not MSRP) tops for machinery in excellent condition.  Euro machinery commands a higher price range.  I would not even consider a 6" jointer, 8" is the minimum I would recommend for milling lumber.  If you only wish to edge joint, it would be OK but I wouldn't go more than $200-250 since it will be more difficult to sell down the road.  The downside to the 8" is you are probably looking at 240V.  Depending on your timeframe, I would probably wait for the Hammer.

On the PC Omni-jig, there is the current model and an older version.  The older version was awesome and built like a tank with the weight to match.  I ended up selling mine many years ago after it was out of production for $300 which is more than I paid for it new.  For the new model, I would apply the thumb rule indicated above.

I have no guidance to offer on the filtration unit.

Hope this helps.

The PC Omni is adjustable as i understand it correct me if I'm wrong.

Yep, looks like the jig has fingers that look just like the Leigh.

Kinda lost respect for Norm, actually doing a P.C. commercial  [sad]

No comments on any of the tools.  But why is 220 volt a problem for you?  It is just as easy to wire as 110 volt outlets.  You can look up online how to do it and learn in less than an hour.  Or go to the library and check out a book on electrical wiring.  Or find a friend or fellow woodworker who knows how to do it.  Electrical wiring for houses is fairly simple and not dangerous if done by a competent person.  There is no reason on earth why you cannot have 220 volt outlets in your shop by the end of the day.
