Using TS 75 on MFT/3

As I drink more of the green Kool-Aid, I just bought an MFT/3.  I have a question borne out of pure ignorance.  During the TS 55R issue, I took a TS 75 in trade primarily due to urgent need for track-saw.  I learned fairly quickly that the TS 75 doesn't work well with the guide rail that comes with the TS55.  Now I'm wondering if the TS 75 will be suitable for use on the MFT/3.  I appreciate your help.

The only difference in the guide rails that comer with the 55 or 75 is length.

What issue are you hoeing with the 75 on the rail?

The 75 will work on the MFT rail. When you're at the with limit the start of the cut will be a plunge cut. I run into this with my 55 at times also.

Yes, the TS75 takes a little more room to start and end a cut. (how much exactly, I'm not sure) It is still very usable on an MFT3. I think you'll also find many other uses for the MFT.

I use a TS 75 on the MFT all the time. The thing I can see over the 55 is a slightly shortened cutting distance.

Full plunge on the TS75 will slice your MFT3 clearly through - the TS55 won't go all the way! Seriously, the 75 would be excellent save for the fact that you will have slightly more mass to deal with in your hand.

The outside splinter guard on the 75 will not engage the blade unless your cut depth is deep enough.

Thanks for all the replies!  I was concerned that the shortened cut length would pose limitations.  I suspect that if I use the anti-kick-back thingy plunge cut should pose limited problems.  Thanks  [smile]

Install the rail hose and cord guide that came with the MFT, it will act as your anti-kick back device.

Properly done plunge cuts pose no problems.

Actually even the TS55 goes clean through the MFT/3... It just might have happened to somebody I know [embarassed]

Actually I did own and use the TS75 with MFT for awhile. I found the TS75 more cumbersome to use on the MFT just because of the size, weight and the fact it needs more distance to plunge the blade before going into the wood. I also had one "kickback" problem that I believe was caused by the way I started the cut and possibly that the blade wasn't quite up to full speed before I started. I just found the TS75 more sensitive to how you use it on the table. Other than that it was great. I now have a TS 55REQ and like it much better for use on the table. However, it really would be personal preference and experience with the saw that would dictate. I find I don't need the extra power and cutting capacity of the 75. It's just easier for me to use.

I've been mulling over buying a 75  saw, but I don't need that extra depth of cut all that often. Up to now, have used my SCMS for the heavier cuts. I will soon have to trim the ends of a new woodwork bench (4" thick material) And I plan on using the 55, turning the top over, to complete the cuts. I think it will work, but then again....  [unsure]

The 42" track is too short to utilize the MFT short wise capacity.  I use a 55" track on the short side and a 75" on the long side.  In order to clear the material prior to cutting and to avoid plunging, the track must extend 13".  I love my TE75 because it will cut ANYTHING I ask it.
