Well, eBay tempted me with a £75 discount code which meant I could bag a Vac sys SE1 set for about £370 which is decent value.
I already have an AirPress Professional vacuum pump etc and so I have just hooked this up to the Festool Vac sys - first I needed a couple of connectors to join the two systems. It all works very impressively, so I shall go ahead and get the SE2 kit and sort out a more considered layout for using it.
The AirPress pump has an adjustable vacuum - it goes up to 25.5 inches of Hg - I found that the Festool clamp works at pretty much the minimum possible setting on the pump. Does anyone know what the normal vacuum pressure in the Festool pump unit is? Ideally, I would set the unit at the level the clamp system is designed for.
I am going to relocate the pump in an understairs cupboard outside the workshop to keep the noise down _ its not too bad, but turning down the vacuum pressure increases the noise due to the constant hiss of releasing air. I plan to make up a permanent pipe through the wall with the requisite fittings either end. The easiest way I can find to do this is to use some 15mm copper tubing (only about 9” length) and various BSP fittings. Does anyone have any thoughts on using the copper tubing? I doubt whether the low pressure for the Festool system will be any problem, but then I would like to use it for the vacuum bag press as well at full vacuum pressure.
Here is a couple of quick pics:
