Veritas Marking Gauge

By the way, I also own this stainless steel marking gauge:http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=64313&cat=1,42936,64313

I have that one as well, and have been really pleased w/ it, but I mostly do very small-scale work, for which it is well-suited. My one reservation/concern is if I need two different settings which are similar enough to be confused --- I always try to make all marks w/ one, zero it out, then switch to the other.

Hi Mario -

The SS single gauge from the 35th anniversary is the one I use the most....I'm looking forward to the double as well! Part are running through the shop right now.....

Cheers -

Hi Rob

Great to see you here!

Yep, that's my favourite as well. I grabbed a couple when they were offered, and did my best to alert others to the bargain they are. I love the simplicity of the design. They have "presence" in the hand and balance well. Easy to adjust with finger tips.

The new adjustable gauge borrows the offset fence, which is versatile.

What I really like about a wheel gauge is that one can set the depth by "dropping the blade" ...

Japanese gauges with L-shaped blades can also do this.

Tip for all: keep the wheel cutters sharp for best results. Remove and hone by running the face on a fine diamond stone.
