VEVOR Chinese stuff at Home Depot

I was looking for a small exhaust fan for a shed at HD and came across a Vevor model that would be appropriate. Never heard of them so looked at what else they had and there are literally many thousands of things in several categories.

THIS listing is rather shocking.

It’s a 2.2kW water cooled spindle that uses ER20 collets (full set to 1/2” included), driven by the included VFD. Also includes a mount and the water pump with hoses.

Claimed runout is less than two thousands of a millimeter!  [eek]

And it all together cost $300.

Also listed at Amazon for $23 more delivered to you vs going to an HD store. More info like the collets are 1 through 13mm and a few reviews.

I guess my shock is at how much stuff you can get for your money if willing to take a chance on Chinese goods. Looks like I’ve fallen behind the curve.

VEVOR skips QA.  Think harbor freight.  It's usable if you know what you're doing and can fix stuff that was missed in QA.... kinda like Festool these days ;)

I stumbled upon Vevor while looking to install a pair of pull down attic ladders in the storage eaves of the garage. The typical Louisville and Werner garage ladders are just a bit too long to fit into the space. The Vevor alternatives weren't exactly cheap (actually more expensive) but the other Vevor items were both cheap and plentiful. I was amazed at the selection...literally thousands of items.  [eek]  I'm thinking Vevor will soon have their own shipping vessels and shipping containers. [smile]

Matthias Wandel has some YT videos where he talks about Vevor items. He has made devices with some Vevor components

I feel uninitiated.

What is Vevor known for?

Should I be applauding or avoiding Vevor products?

I see that they manufacture in China.

In addition to cheap labor, China has very lax environmental laws.

I have read that 30% to 40% of the cost of metal plating (zinc, chrome, nickel, etc.) is the result of environmental compliance.

Casting iron is even worse.  I have read that Chinese enjoy a nearly 50% cost advantage due to environmental laxity.

I believe that almost all the woodworking machines that have significant amounts of iron casting (jointers, planers, table saws, etc.) have casting made in China.

(I would note, that until Belgium entered the EU, they were just as bad, dumping raw effluent from plating plants into streams and rivers.)

So, should I be offended that Vevor is selling through Home Depot?

I've been tempted by their 50A plasma cutter, reviews show you can push it to 1/2" steel but it's really rated for 1/4" I believe. $170 bucks.

Some of what I'm reading on geopolitics posits that the wave replacing residential construction in China is driven by subsidized production that is flooding the world with really cheap stuff. Similar to the Temu phenomenon.

Being in OZ we pretty much rely on suppliers like Vevor to avoid getting completely reamed on pricing, I've bought a lot of woodworking tools and they're every bit as good as you'd hope, I've also bought several spindle and VFD sets as spares for my CNC and to build a router table with, and see no difference in performance or quality compared to others I've bought locally.

Quite a coincidence...I purchased (ordered) a Vevor Hydraulic Knockout Punch Driver Kit Hole Tool. Never heard of the brand, but I need to do about 20 holes so it will be sufficient.

By the way, a review of a Vevor gable mounted exhaust fan at Home Depot clued me in that Vevor has their own web sale site and the fan I wanted cost $50 less there and ships to me for free in about the same time it would take to get it from HD.

I did notice their website, but I thought it was a off-shoot of the Home Depot, perhaps some corporate tie-in or perhaps Home Depot owns Vevor.  What lead me to that thought was the “look” of the website.  Compare the two websites.  To me, they look like two consecutive website pages.  Clone-ish (if that is a word).  It also ties in to my earlier observation that the earlier linked page sounded like it was written by someone born in the USA.

Companies like Vevor that have no qualms about infringing on intellectual property rights and patents also have no problems with imitating large brand name companies to increase the appearance of legitimacy.

Absolutely no shame with what is all but a complete photocopy of the HD site.

Luvmytools has the same view on buying from Asia as most Australians, we don't see the fuss that other countries seem to have. The large companies are good to deal with it is the scamming individuals on sites such as Ebay and to a lesser extent Amazon who create problems some of which I have experience with through no fault of my own. Western companies also copy IP, the track saw, multi tool and similar tools are good examples and then produce cheaper versions. I had a design protected by patent ripped off so I speak from hard experience in these matters.

I'm still thinking the web sites look "identical" because of the orange. They otherwise have very different layouts based on the screenshots.

VEVOR does closely copy HD website but at least it works well. Better than Lowes website.

There's a simple "get it done" kind of pragmatism that's really quite impressive with these companies. Although sometimes they don't quite get it right. We had a popular brand of glasses sold in a chain that had a raised square pattern around the outside of the glass, but when the Chinese companies copied it, they clearly just went by pics and their version has the square pattern around the inside of the glass.

The matter of fact way they went around copying an existing product, and then the fact it occurred to no one that raised lumps on the inside of the glass might not be quite right, is a great example. I'm also pretty sure if it was pointed out after the fact, the response would have been "so what?".

I've bought a bunch of things from Vevor and have yet to be disappointed in what I've received. So far it trends better than harbor freight but insane variety of products.  If you like sous vide cooking their chamber vac sealers are a fantastic deal and I've run thousands of bags through it issues free.

One thing I have learned is before buying anything always check for the same item on amazon. Vevor sells on their site and also sells on amazon.  I am building a CNC and the price at most places for steel boxes is eye watering.  A 24x24x12 steel box was $199 on the vevor site but on amazon it was $148 and a $20 coupon brought it to $128.
