Recently I have setup a new workshop (been away from woodwork for a long time) I have alway wanted to play with dovetails  so the new VS 600 was one of the tools on my want list.
With it I got to gigs 1 x  VS600-szo 14z and 1 x  vs 600-szo14s the dealer gave me two cutters one dovetail HW 491 164 and HW 490 978

So  I started plying reading through the really good instructions at    http://web.mac.com/glwork/The_Dovetail_Joint/Manuals.html    ( link found on forum thanks) I thought I had arrived.

Could I get my test peaces to fit together NO No No
Apparently the dealer things that  the O stands for  open dovetail and I was trying to make the ease blind dovetail to get that under my belt first
Im practising on 18mm ply and MDF at the moment the depth range of materials for the guide,s is I think 14 to 22mm

So what help do I need?
Is there a tables setting out what cutters and guides should be used
any other info that can be passed onto a newbe
Speak soon

For half blind you'll need SZ-14 template (488877) wit flanged 17mm copy ring and 490992 carbide dovetail bit. Two SZO-14 template set won't work for half blind dovetails.

Thanks what have I got and what should I be using it for?

You've  got cut through dovetail templates 491152. It works well too, but it's required a little bit more precise setup. Unlike half blind dovetail template it uses two separate template for head and tails. If you continue to read Jerry Work's manual, you'll find instructions how to use SZO templates.

Good luck!

Thanks I will go onto the through dovetails, as per the instructions "master the blind first then move on" I think this is good advice as im starting to find my way around.
