Wall St Journal -- what $700 sander eats its own dust?

John,
Thanks for the link.  The Festool reference is a bit cryptic.  And they could have mentioned the Festool Owners Group, which is perfect for the article.

WSJ sure did not check in my shop when they mentioned "wealthy".
Some of us buy top quality because it is cheaper over the long run.

Besides a car, they're the most expensive things I own. Sometimes I wish I had a high stress job to escape to my workshop from.

Oh wait, that's what I did ;)

Tinker is correct.  Here is an example.  I bought a Freud 2/14 HP, 13A router, with rubber cord, 5 year warranty, variable speed and ability to adjust its height and change bits from above the table.   Bought it last winter during a special promotion for $159 at a woodworking show.  It included a coupon for a free plunge base which Freud honored.  Problem is, I want to mount this router in a table insert. [I already had a 1400 FEQ.]  Only after struggling to do so (since they did not include a template and the arrangement of the holes in the base prevented simple insertion of screws through those hoes for marking and I have no machinist's or other training in how to do an accurate layout - I used a centering mandrel and a cheap compass) did I learn that the movement of the router motor relative to its base was not on an axis parallel to the router shaft with the result that changing the bit height changes the position of it axis of rotation - not a good thing for use in a router table if you are trying to make precise cuts relative to Incra or JoinTech templates - OK if you set up for full depth cuts.  In short, I would have been much happier had I bought a Triton or PC 7518, or if Festool then offered a unit for table mounting.

They must mean $700 for vac and sander combo??  Although vac is not tiny.  :)  Woodworkers Journal would have gotten it right!
