Warranty Cards

My first 4 tools came with a warranty card.  Yesterday I added a CT-VA-20 and the ETSC 125.  Neither had the card.  Normally when this happens, its because it was a return and someone else used it or tossed it.  But both of these appeared to be fully intact packages, i.e. never opened.  One was local, was was online.  I know its not the end of the world, but I like documentation, especially should an insurance situation come up.

That is what receipts are for.

Warranty cards are just data grabbing tools.  You never have to fill one out, and it wouldn't be much use to verify a purchase.  Keep your receipt safe so if something comes up for insurance or warranty coverage you are good to go.  It could just be Festool is going to stop bothering with them, or they ran out of them, or they forgot to put them in.

My last couple of tools haven't had them either.  I suspect it's a legacy from the days before the internet and Festool had a decent website.

I don't see how a card helps you insurance wise, but if it works for you.  [unsure]

Here's where you compile all that now:

Not sure the card will help but just covering all the bases.  I wouldn't put it past some insurance companies to do all they can to figure out how to not pay a claim.

All of my tools have both a T.Nr and a S.Nr.  But I can find neither on this CT-VA-20.  I bought it locally and I have had gas receipts with more useful information than the one I got for it.

Thanks for the link, I will check that out.

First of all, if your receipt is one of those thermally printed ones, copy or scan and print a hardcopy to throw in a file.  In the US you don't need to fill out a warranty card for coverage - BUT if you don't have a dated proof of purchase date then your warranty coverage will have nothing to go back to but the manufacture date on the tool label.  That would likely reduce your period.

In the old days the dealer would complete and send in the card for the warranty.  It is possible your dealer did that.  You might want to give them a call.

Thanks Peter, I had forgotten about those thermal ones slowly dying as they age and all my local purchases have that kind.

Mine does not.  He makes it very clear, on every purchase, "Make sure you go online and register your tool with Festool" .

Rick, I suspect that your insurer will want a list of specific tools you have in order to have replacement coverage.  It will probably be handled as a rider.

While a regular policy may cover a sander , you're going pushback when you tell them at claim time that you had 4 Festool sanders and they cost $500-$900 each to replace.  You should have a talk with your agent specifically about what you want covered and how.

And be prepared to pay.

Yep, have already had that discussion with regards to jewelry and guns.  Also have a new carrier so I guess another call is in order.  Thanks.
