Well, It Finally Happened

I have bought a ton of reconditioned tools from the Festoolrecon.com site. I've been very happy with the purchases. Some were basically new.

I trigger fingered on a kal1 a while back and unfortunately I did not realize that it wasn't the k a l 2. The new version is much cleaner light and brighter. I tried to cancel the transaction but alas it had already been shipped.

I've used it intermittently and it's been fairly babied. Today I grabbed it to stick inside a cabinet case so I can see where the hinge marks were and install the hinge clip and I turned it on and immediately went from high to low ran for about 10 seconds and then cut off. The charging light does not come on when you put the charger on the back and plug it in. If you turn it on when it's plugged in the switch will work and immediately go from high to low run for about 10 seconds and then cut off. So, assuming that the switch is working yet the light will not run it must be some sort of charging board problem? It had seemed a little hot while I was running it on the power cord, mounted on a tripod in the shop.

Anyway, I guess I'm going to send it in and given the fact that it was reconditioned and it's failed again, I'm going to ask them to give me a new kal 2. I don't feel like messing with sending a defective light back every three or four months.

Luckily I have another kal2 (thanks Bob Marino) now that I can use until all this is resolved.

If I understand you correctly you bought a reconditioned KAL1.  You have had problems and now you are going to ask for a new KAL2?

I hope this works out the way you desire but like Alex I have my doubts. Festool's recourse under the reconditioned program would to make a repair within the stated warranty program for the reconditioned tool sale items.

Like many other “Green Kool Aid” faithful -
For many years I’ve been pretty much an “exclusive” Festool buyer/user.
I’ve spent $1000’s investing in Festool products.
Sadly - No more.
Just too many, continuing/increasing number of reports -
Of Festool tool failures, the last several years.

It appears that this once exceptional brand of tools - Sold at premium prices -
With relentless annual price increases - Even on unchanged/unimproved tools -
Is now becoming a brand of relatively competitive quality “me too” tools -
Trying to trade on “yesterday’s reputation” of excellence.

As my “out of warranty” Festool tools fail - And require “out of pocket” repairs -
I find myself reluctantly replacing them with tools of competitive brands.
Their failure rates - Are more and more - Comparable to Festool -
But cost 1/2 to 2/3 the prices of Festool products. I’m not alone.

The Wizard of Oz was able to “dazzle ‘em” with hype for a while -
But the “curtain” of reality eventually came down.
Frankly, it’s sad to watch the same thing happening with Festool.

You can always sell your festools on the classified section here, if you are unhappy with them or festool service.

There are plenty of people who will buy them from you and you can go buy another tool brand that you feel is better for your needs.

This is America in America we have the freedom to buy or sell whatever we want as long as its legal. I dont believe its illegal for you to sell your tools that you are unhappy with.
You can even choose which media to sell them at, Classifed here, Craigslist , Ebay and Im sure you have a local Pennysaver or something to that affect.
