What are these for?

Just a random question that popped up during a moment of job site boredom. Anybody know what the reason for these two rubber strips are on the T18? Something as mundane as fastener covers or is there more of an intent behind them?

Rubber bumper because they are the most outer part when not connected to a battery? Also making it easier to hold the tool when pulling the battery.

Agreed, [member=8955]Coen[/member]. It's called an 'overmould' - a postformed rubber compound added over the top of a plastic injection moulding to increase user grip and increase impact resistance. They're present on many, many tools - especially drills, combis, impact drivers and so on.
