What changed in the Gecko?

Recently the Festool Gecko rail adapter got a new product number, but what changed?

The set went from 493507 to 577294
The adapter itself from 492616 to 577293

The adapter plate between Gecko and rail looks wider. But why? Did it conflict with the TSC 55? Or the new TS 60?

I don't have the Gecko but I would say that is a good guess. I have found that my TSC55 does ride low over the track and can clash with something close by.

I set the depth of plunge on max and there is no interference on the TSC 55 K model. Maybe there is on the TS 60 model?

Not with TSC /per Cheese/ but with some other tools. The Gecko was simply too close.

I remember definitely having issues with one of our non-Festool saws.

How? Aren't Gecko's made in Germany anymore? Where are they made now? The partnr. of the Gecko itself didn't change.

And at the -1 degree setting? The motor housing will come lower.

Gecko /and the FS/2 system/ is used widely so that would not be surprising.

I actually "remembered" it conflicts with the TSC until Cheese pointed to the contrary, so must have been the other saw.

Either way, the adapter being too narrow is a major gripe. The one time I needed it - and what I bought it for - I could not use it and was really pissed.

Did not used the GECKO with FS/2 since. Remembering it is a PITA I always find a different way to fix the rail where needed. This new adapter may see me give it another chance.

Besides, I need the second GECKO for big (2070x2800) chipboard sheets and glass holding use.

It SEEMS TSC will work - and does work at shallow plunge - but it does NOT work on medium or full plunge. While the saw body indeed clears the GECKO, the batteries' rubber bands conflict and the saw gets "stuck" with the GECKO when a cut is attempted.

That is exactly what happened to me - I did the same check as you, and then was unpleasantly surprised once I tried to use it on a real project ... I just forgot the details since.

I have only the 5.2 bats so since the 4.0 and 8.0 are even longer, those would hard-conflict for sure.

I guess the TSC may work with the original adapter with the older 4.2 bats without the rubber band.

That photo is misleading a bit. You have the saw plunged right across the GECKO - so both the bats rubber bands would be before and after the thickest point of the GECKO so everything seems fine ... You need to try actually moving the saw across it. It is those 1-2 mm the rubber bands stick out that is the issue.

So you not feel bad - I did exact as you when I got the GECKO - checked it being "tight but fine". Then a month later used it on a project and messed the cut as the saw got stuck ... I just did not remember the detail initially, only that it did not work.

Well then, the mystery is solved!

I ordered one Gecko. Not so much to use with the rail, but I wanted one suction device, so figured I might just as well get the Gecko.

Will see if it's marked made in ...

So this is the real deal...a pair of 5.2's will pass through the channel at 90º.

A pair of 5.2's will pass through the channel at -1º.

A pair of 4.0's will not pass through anything...then again, these would be the last resort to use if larger Ah batteries are available.

But with Festool not spending a word on the incompatiblity of the older one or compatibility of the newer one... do they expect everyone to figure this out for themselves??

Someone trying the Gecko, finding it conflicts... is not gonna buy another (new) Gecko unless he is informed it is now compatible.

I'm pretty sure they are still made in Germany. Although it no longer says so on the Gecko itself, it does explicitly say so on the box. At least on the one I received this month.
