What do we want? Carvex! When do we want it?...

I was wondering if there are any further updates on the NA Carvex release.  I was looking forward to getting it as my fourth Festool power tool (1,2 - Domino + CT Midi package, 3 - TS55) but instead had to "settle" for an OF1400.  My most recent project has involved a lot of hand coping-saw work in jatoba.  I'm surprisingly good at cutting right-angle freehand curves after a lot of practice, but it's just not the same as with a jigsaw, and I'm resisting a Trion purchase even with the 20% discount.

So...should I hold out hope for this year?  Or next?  Or *cringe* later?

I have no updates to share. As soon as there's new information to share, you can rest assured that it will be posted, emailed, shouted from mountaintops, etc.

Just my  [2cents] but I was totally against the Trion until the other day, when watching Gary Katz use it with a Collins coping foot as a dedicated coping tool.  Carvex or not, I'm going to get a Trion also.  The Carvex issue is being kept secret even from certain individuals that normally would be in the loop.  I'm not putting any effort into finding out details.  Let Festool work stuff out and release it when they're ready.  They already know there is such a high market demand that not introducing it would be foolish.

I was feeling the same way about getting the trion, but then I figured I might as well get it since my old jigsaw is a POS, so any jigsaw would be a huge upgrade.  Also after seeing Ken's post/pic of the trion with the collins coping foot, something clicked in my head and I just got it.

Worse case scenario, you buy the Trion, and in 6 mos or a year the Carvex comes out (my guess, not any inside information) you can turn around and sell your lightly used Trion for 90% of it's value.

Also, if you're coping a lot, check out some posts on the FOG using the RAS.  Fast and almost dustless.

What advantage is there to using the Trion with the coping foot over any other saw? and where's these pics?

My current jigsaw that I've had since Bosch came out with it some years ago is the 1591.  The newer Bosch jigsaws won't accept the Collins coping foot so I would have had to buy the older 1587 to accomplish that.  I bought the Collins coping foot several years ago, but never got another jigsaw to use it on so it's been in the package ever since.  I've been coping everything by hand.  Seeing the Trion with the Collins foot mounted to it and the great price makes me want to get it and dedicate it to coping, even down the road when I do get a Carvex for all other use.

Gary showed us me how the RAS won't cope certain profiles because it just can't get in there like a jigsaw.

Thats why I use this.  Don't laugh, I know its a black and decker, but man can this thing get into tight corners.  Only problem is it spits dust everywhere and I end up coughing for a week after.  Need to find a way to hook up my ct22 to it.

I bought a Trion last Dec. and after about 8 feet of cuts my reactions were two fold.  Positive was it cut better than any other jig I have ever used. Negative the viewing area for the blade as too small, DC was not up to Festool standards (when compared to my Kapex and many other of my Festools) no good blade storage and a few more issues. I posted  here and found about about the Carvex.  I returned my Trion and accessories (BIG THANK YOU TO FESTOOL FOR THE 30 DAY RETURN!) I had my Woodcraft dealer put the return money on a gift card as I do want a Festool Jig! From all the other Festool product purchased prior... he knew that. If I did not have an almost new DeWalt jig, I would buy a Trion as a backup but I will buy the Carvex when it comes out no matter how long it takes.

FESTOOL RULES!!!!  ...anyone remember the Beach Boys song Surfers Rule?  Just replace the words Surfers Rule with Festool Rules and it will stick in your head...like glue... Okay maybe just me.... [doh]

Cheers,
Steve

I've been trying to understand the advantage of a cordless Festool jigsaw if you are planning to use it with dust extraction. Since the hose is attached you're still tethered.

It gives you options, to tether or not to tether.... [big grin]

I too have been waiting for the release of the Carvex.  All I can say is I don't want one until Festool USA is ready to bring one out.  In a world of sell - sell - sell, it is refreshing to see a company which could sell, sell, sell, a product say not yet.

Hey one less thing to connect ... do you want DC or not... but if you need to go to the top of the roof cordless is nice.

Cheers,
Steve

buy 1 right away, i have 2 jigsaws, and now going to buy a carvex 14volt tomorrow,
cordless is the way to go & charge with ones solar panels

I could not wait any longer for the Carvex as my previous jig saw was stolen in Dec 2010. So when the Carvex was delayed I bought the Trion. It is a great saw. Glad I bought it.

I will still buy the cordless Carvex when it comes out.

Ken,  I believe the new bosch jig barrel grip does take the Coping foot.  I wanted to buy the corded carvex to use for normal cutting, and then have the lower priced bosch with the collins foot on it all the time.  I have not coped yet with a jigsaw, but I have read enough about it that I want try it out.

I can't see spending that much money on the trion just to have it with a coping foot on it all the time.

No cordless models for me.  I want my jigsaw corded!  We have the bench setup anyways with a lot of outlets available.  So why not have the cord and not worry about having to buy batteries when they die,  or have to charge them etc.

I just bought the kapex, so for me,  the carvex can wait until fall.  Gotta let the wallet recuperate.

I don't believe so, but it's best to contact Dave Collins for the real answer.

My same feeling about the corded vs. cordless jigsaw.

Enjoy that new "toy"!
