Where can I find Shinex RAP 150 information?

My favorite local dealer has the Shinex RAP 150, I’ve lifted it, held it and know it is real, but why hasn’t it been discussed much or reviewed here?

(this paragraph has been updated to clarify my wood finishing.)  Ignoring the price, is the Shinex suited for polishing finished wood?  My usual choice of finish is shellac with multiple hand-applied coats.  When using a power tool to polish in the past, I've used the Rotex RO-125.  The FestoolUSA website and 2011/2012 catalog says it is but has very little information about it.  Neither the FestoolUSA website nor Uncle Bob’s website has the instruction manual.

From the catalog it appears the 6-inch polishing pads from the ETS-150 will work on the Shinex.

Is this product not yet real in North America, is it not catching on with the FOG base or am I just not looking in the right places for information?  If I am looking in all the wrong places, please reply with a list of urls for me to check.

I think it would depend on the finish you are using, because you would essentially be polishing the finish, not the wood. Above 320 grit or so, I can't think of any situations when you would polish/ sand wood without having applied a finish to it.

It is my impression that the shinex is aimed more at the automotive market, lacquers, paint, solid surface etc. You could use it to get a gloss finish on a wood finish perhaps, but you would probably get more mileage out of a rotex as you could use it for other tasks.

I'm just speculating.

You may find this pdf interesting, from Festool UK, entitled "High-gloss finish on authentic wood surfaces." It recommends using the shinex for the final polishing stage, but I think you could substitute the Rotex.

Richard,

Thank you.  I should have said that most of my finishes are shellac and that there are enough coats so that I am polishing the finish to the required shine.  My error and I should probably edit my original post.

I have the Rotex 125 and the ETS 150/3 and have used the Rotex for this purpose.  If others chime in as you did, I will hold off from considering the Shinex as I don't think I would use it to polish the truck or car even if I used this as purchase rationale.

I think you summed it up, Richard.

The ergonomics, power, and variable speed are the distinguishing elements.
