Why is it that when I am expecting a delivery of my precious Festool tools that the UPS driver is not here until after 5:00 pm?  Stuff my wife orders, or things I really do not care when they arrive, those days UPS is here by 10:00 am?

It's 5:05 pm here, and still no UPS package - I'm waiting for my domino!

They deliver here at 6:30, but that is for my wife's stuff also.

Well, UPS finally came - yipee!  Only downside, the domino I got has the new style plastic pins, is this a big deal?  I know some prefer the original, metal pins.  The manuf date on mine was 03/08.

Mike

I understood the only disadvantage is that you cannot use the tabs for spacing mortices close together by hooking the pin into the previous mortice.
Advantages of the newer version: you can lock the tabs inside the fence. ; new plastic sighting-gauge with larger surface, and part of it works as a magnifier to lign up to thin pencil lines easier; parts of the fence assembly have a rougher surface to improve the issue of the height setting that can get "off" during use.

Oh boy, what kind of ruckus is Mike going to start now with the new Domino issues.  ;D

Just kidding Mike, let us know how the new Domino works out.

Ha Ha Ha - no, not me I would never create a ruckus  :D

I'm wondering since I never used either style Domino if I will even need the old style with metal pins?  I thought I read somewhere that there was a legal issue why Festool changed over from the metal pins to the plastic ones - Or, was this change only made to improve the tool?

Anyone out there use both styles, which do you prefer?  As I said, since I never used either maybe the newer version is fine for me, can't miss what you never had or used.

Mike

Mike there seems to mixed thoughts on the new vs. old, some I'm sure would love the idea of having the new. Me, I like my old style, but I've not use or seen the new in person. To my knowledge you are the first US customer to get a new style Domino. I'm sure you aren't the first, but, at least, you are the first one to post about it. Try it out and let us know.

I understood it was about a patent-issue with mafell, who use similar pins on this machine

I've had my Domino for a month or so now.  I was very happy it came with the metal pins cause I'm able to use it with these fabu spacer dealiebobs: LINK.  He usually has sets on ebay as well, so I was able to get them with the live.com cashback deal.  They work great.
