I have just collected a new RAS 180 E (570747) sander at my local dealer. I was looking forward to experiment with the supplementary abrasive discs before I order packs of 50 (Rubin 2) or Packs of 25 (Saphir) which are rather expensive. Unfortunately my machine was supplied with only one 80 grit Rubin 2 abrasive disc.
Which abrasives does the RAS 180 E come with? The catalogue mentions that the following should be included in the box: “StickFix sanding pad Ø 180, extraction hood, StickFix abrasive discs, operation tool, in carton.” I suppose the plural means more than one.
Tom at Tool HOME mentioned that the RAS 115 comes with:
“2 each - P 36 Rubin
2 each - P 80 Rubin
2 each - P 120 Rubin
1 each - P 50 Saphir
and what I think is A 80 Vlies”
I do realise that the RAS 115 comes in a sustainer and not in a carton such as the RAS 180E. However, the catalogue also mentions “StickFix abrasive discs” for the RAS 115: “StickFix sanding pad Ø 115 mm, sanding pad 2F Ø 115 mm, StickFix abrasive discs, extraction hood, protective cover, additional side-mounted hand grip, operation tool, in a SYSTAINER SYS 2 T-LOC”.
I would really prefer to experiment before I buy a pack of 50 discs (Rubin 2) or 25 discs (Saphir).
Does it mean that my unit has been undersupplied?
My first project would be to restore the beautiful Burmese Teak doors of our church which is covered with weathered varnish. It seems from comments made by other owners that P50 Saphir would be a good option to start with, and to proceed then to P80 Rubin or P100 Rubin. Some owners mentioned that lower grits should be avoided for hard woods (if possible). I hope you sense my need to try some of them out before I order whole packs.
