Hi all,.
Newbie to this and have a question about which saw blade to use and at what speed. My TS75 was having a hard time going through 2 inch thick maple on speed 4 using blade 493198.  I also have 493196 which I think is for softer wood.  Any suggestions/advice on what blade I should use when and at what speed?

Thx,  Lloyd

You need to use a ripping blade, with less tooth - the current one you are using is not ideal for hardwoord ripping for sure.  Get the Panther blade - or a similar blade from some other manufacturer (Freud, CMT).

Lloyd - You do not mention whether you are ripping or crosscutting 2" maple with your TS75.  The advice above is good - use a ripping blade for ripping 2" hardwood.  The Panther blade (493196) is good for ripping, but be aware the Panther blade is a bit different width compared to the Universal blade and will cut the anti-chip strip on the guide rail in a different spot.  The Universal blade (493198) should be fine for crosscutting and ripping many materials.  I have a TS55 and run the saw at full speed for all wood cutting, although a speed range of 3 to 6 is recommended for hardwoods.  Blades to fit Festool saws are not easy to find.  Forrest does make one, available in the USA.  Your profile does not indicate where you are, and there may be other blades available in other countries.  Festool blades are hard to beat though.  There are some other threads here on the FOG about ripping hardwoods with the TS saws.  Try Search to find them.

493196 is the Panther rip blade for the TS75; designed specifically for heavy rip cuts such as 2" maple.

I use the universal blade routinely to cut 2" hardwoods such as Red Gum and Jarrah, which are every bit as hard as Maple. But I use speed mark 6. I get excellent results with this set up, such that I can joint two pieces together with no further treatment.

Regards,

Rob
