Frank,
I noticed you put 'your sign' as the first photo of the thread.
Undoubtedly that store policy had to be enacted because of your personal choice in money storage 'systems'.
I believe had the camera panned down there would've been a 2nd sign identical in typeface that reads, 'This means you, Frank!'
;D [poke] [popcorn]

All kidding aside, thank you for posting these great pics (many of which are hysterical).
I love that the FOG draws posters from different parts of the world and that we get an insight into life in other places.
In addition, I have often looked at your avatar and wondered what it must be like to work in/off-shore to Nigeria.
If you ever have any chopper pics, I'm sure everyone would love to see them!

Thanks for the great thread, Frank!
Dave

So funny. I really loved the paint stripping at the side of the road that neatly avoided the branch sticking in the way.  So classic of human behavior , why work the problem, when you can literally work around it..... [eek]

I worked in Zambia for awhile and I was continually impressed with the wacky way things got done.  On one trip we were traveling up the river along a road that took about 12 hours to drive- about 8 hours in, we pass a logging truck coming the other way and they flag us down.  When we stop, they hand us a note from the woman that we had hired to cook at the camp where we were going.  She had some family trouble and was going to be a few days late getting there- no big deal.  But, what struck me was the fact that she handed off a note to a couple of strangers, hundreds of miles away from us, with full confidence that they would somehow come upon us in the middle of nowhere and deliver the message.

Another time, we had traveled to go to a festival some 18 hours drive away.  Our plan had been to cross the Zambezi to the opposite side from our camp down in Victora, drive up and then loop back down on the other side of the Zambezi river to make it to camp in time.  As luck would have it, a late rainy season had washed out the bridge that we would have used to get across the river.  Rather than drive 18 hours back to where we started and then another 12 hours up to our camp, my companion, a local, takes off into the village for a couple of hours.  When he gets back he tells me to siphon off some gas from the tank of the land rover, he's found a guy with a boat.  He's going to trade us 3 gallons of petrol to take us (and the land cruiser) across the river.  I am picturing a ferry like thing- but no.  We get to the river and there is this tiny little boat barely wider than the car that we drive down on to.  The boat sinks down almost to where the deck is under water.  The guy with the boat tells us that we should climb on the roof of the car for the journey.  You know, just in case.  Lo and behold, we chug right along and make it to the other side and into camp on time.  Somehow, with the slimmest of resources and the worst of luck, the people over there alway manage to make it work.  It's pretty inspiring to witness, especially when you realize that your average American probably can't even change their own oil...

Great pics! There are a couple laugh-out-loud ones for sure. Here are a couple favorites from my travels.

I called this one "contradictions" (if you want diaper repellant, don't drink the viagra water...), from a shop outside the airport in Belize City:

As always thanks for sharing your photos.  How many did you take?

I think you did once post a chopper thread, right?

Now I have a new perspective on the old line. "Buy them books, send them to school, and what do they do?  They eat the teacher..."

[big grin]

absolutely brilliant frank .people around me in the office are wondering what im laughing at
