Thinking of buying a Mini Vac to put on my Kapex, Tired of moving the CT33 back and forth. Will the mini handle it?Thanks for all your responses in advance.FORTROUT

Were you satisfied with the dust collection with the CT33?

I ask because......  Well, I don't have a Kapex; just a Makita 1013. I originally had it hooked to my CT22 with a Mr. Nozzle hose. The dust collection was decent. I started using it with my Ridgid 16gal shop vac with the same hose and DC is much better. Of course I now have to use an add-on trigger device to activate the vac; but it is worth it in my situation.

I just wonder if the mini would move enough air for decent pickup.

I use the Kapex with the CT Mini - I'd say the dust collection is around 80-90% (though that is a COMPLETELY wild stab in the dark!).

I've not used it with a CT22/33 for comparison, but I'm sure with the recommended 50mm hose it'd be a lot better (I'm using the 27mm hose).

So, the answer is that with the CT Mini, the dust collection isn't as good as with the CT22 or 33. Whether it's good enough, that's a question only you can answer...

No, the Mini will disappoint you. I had the Mini and when the bag is about half full (it gets there fast) you lose a lot of suction power and I can't see that it would work well with the Kapex, sorry.

I was going to keep the Mini but in fact the Mini was outclassed by both my old Volta and our new mini Bosch vac. So I sold it. It is decent for sanding and small stuff though.

I got the CTL 22 instead and now that I have gotten over the bulk (though I use one at work) I am much happier - the CTL 22 is a great vac.

A colleague had the Midi and was equally disappointed as it was not powerful enough for his needs.

I've got a midi and a Kapex. I used to use it with a 27mm hose and it was ok... I then upgraded to the 36mm hose - totally different. Not perfect, but pretty close.

I would upgrade the hose to 36mm, see if that's good for you (was for me). Then if it is not and you upgrade the vac, you can use the new 36mm hose instead of the 27mm one.

So, you try with something cheap, before having (if you feel you need to) to upgrade. If you do upgrade you will reap the benifit of the 36mm hose - everyone's a winner !!

I completely agree with Paul. I've had good luck with my Mini and D36 hose.

Festool recommends the D36 hose for the Kapex not the D50. The D50 won't fit the Kapex.

It is also my experience that the hose makes a much greater difference than the vac.  I can't tell a significant difference using the CT22 or the Midi, but I can tell a huge difference between the D27 and D36 hoses.

My thoughts exactly.

Equally, when using multiple hoses (and switching them RTS400/27mm to Kapex/36mm), I have found it REALLY useful to actually attach the hose from the device being used (Kapex/TS55/OF1400 whatever) and the bloody Vac :-)

I thought the suction was really crap earlier on today... Only to look behind the MFT/3 to see I'd not actually plugged the hose into the Vac....

I had to laugh... I was cutting through 5" x 4" teak.... It covered my Kapex, like a brown hairy growth !!

However, that's nothing to what my Thicknesser produces on a good day when I have been trawling through other builders skips for old wood.... A clean up session mean HEAPS of wood chippings - great for fires - preferable NOT on the floor in the building where your actually working - oops !
